Not the usual "when should I have my first oil change" question

Hi guys/gals

I just purchased an '09 6 sp Msport 328i E93 a couple of weeks ago. It was officially "put in service" as a BMW executive car in August of '09. When I received the car two weeks ago it had 97 miles on it.

Ok, so I know about BMW's policy about low mile oil changes every year, but should I follow this and have the oil changed in August (when it may have 1,000 miles on it if I push it), or should I go longer? I've never gotten a confident answer on the "is a special break in oil used at the factory?" question, so will a drain and refill at such low mileage may be detrimental to break in if a special oil is drained? Altho, I don't like the thought of multiple short engine starts and stops and the assiciated moisture and what that did to the oil over the first year of the car's life, either... although synthetic should deal with that contamination pretty well, i would think..

Would love to hear some opinions!

No such thing as break in oil. I would get the low mileage (annual) change now.

The M's have break-in oil (and are due for a 1200 mile service), but every other BMW does not. You're entitled to the annual oil change, so I'd get it done.

No break-in oil on a 328i - take advantage of the free change & replace your year old oil.

He can't do it now.

Totally true, but I did mine at 1600. My original service manager said if he OWNED the car he would, but if leased, don't bother. He said the notion of changing the oil at 1000 (or 1200 on M cars) is a bit old-fashioned, and probably not needed, but he would still do it on any car that he OWNS. For any leased vehicles, he suggested doing the minimum recommended as it's not your car and not your worry anyway.

This is true, unless one plans to purchase the car at the end of the lease.

Woops... I missed the month. It looks like BMW put the car in service in August 2009, so in August 2010 he can get the annual oil change.
