Basic Audio Upgrade!: Under Seat SWS 8" + Blaupunkt Plug n Play

Hey guys, with the Very influential help of board member Technic

Ive complete my basic audio upgrade

Here in Germany my car came with the standard crap setup

4 Fullrange 6" Phillips Speakers
2 under seat 6.5" Phillps subs..
No Amp

After seeing people replace the underseat subs with SWS 8" Earthquake speakers I went for it myself. There was a Minor issue with fitment as they do not create a seal and stick out of the casing. To solve this we added a ring, and enclosed the gaps around the speaker sides with silicon. Walaa No leaks and they sound GREAT

Now for the Amp.

Blaupunk THA 555 PnP (Plug N Play).
This is a 5 channel amp.
It is a Direct plug in application to the factory radio no modification necessary.

This amp now powers my 4 oem crappy 6" phillips with constant 55watts Perfect and they sound great!

It powers the 2 SWS speakers under each seat at 250 watts.. they sound excellent..(Every E90 has speakers in this location.. this upgrade is a Must for EVERYONE)

Overall its a Major improvment. my car does not have a factory amp like most US cars but im pretty sure this amp will work for all cars.. It just throws more power on the signal and no worries about distorion as the amp is designed specifically for this reason.. It should be an OEM Add On option in my opinion.

Iim considering adding an Infinity Basslink II which is a 10" small pre amped sub in the back.. these go for cheap too on ebay..

I think with this final piece ill have an excellent sounding car for a very basic upgrade.. All in all it costs me about 900 dollars with installation help from shops and parts and all and that price includes the Infinity Basslink..

Cheers and MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR thanks to Technic.. Honestly every part was his suggestion, i just put it together.. The man is a Genius and impressivley knowledgable

I have my 2 SWS-8 and am ready to install them.....

One question: How thick of spacer did you use to make it fit just right. i did a test fit and know what your talking about when you say there is a minor fitment problem.

Thanks Lawrence

how thick was the ring that you installed? 3/4? 1/2? 1 inch?

you might want to invest yourself in some English class before attempting to spam the board

We didnt add a spacer to mine, we just filled the sides with silicon, just make sure you fill in all the gaps that includes the big large one.

A spacer then 1/4 in should work, then fill in the gaps..

I placed the blaupunkt amp behind the rear seat attached to the back in the trunk area.

Im really happy with how it all sounds

IF anyone goes this route and needs help adjusting the amp settings, pm me..

Thanks for the update. I am getting ready to install my SWS subs as well but I was debating whether to use a spacer or just silicone. I think I'll go the silicone route...

Quite long wiring. There were no place for it under seats or inside the dash?

Hi,

rambino you've said yo only use one output from the amp to power the 2 SWS. As the max rms power of each SWS is 150W, don't you think you're loosing power? The 5th output of the amp is 200W 4ohms or 250W 2ohms, did you use 2ohms configuration?

How do you connect them? The amp output into a sub, and the output of that sub as input for the other one?

Do you really feel a good bass?

Congratulations for your installation and post pictures when you can.

Thanks

It is a 2 ohm configuration (parallel), you cannot drive 2 4 ohms subs from one channel otherwise. Use this link (Parallel calculator) for a visual and numeric example: http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcs.asp

Each SWS-8 wire like that will get some 125W RMS each from this Blaupunkt amp.

Thank you. I don't know much about car audio but I've been reading some documents today and I've had a look at your link.

Now I understand it

What possible problems may appear with that configuration? Perhaps amp heating?

Since SWS are 150 RMS, how will they work with 125 RMS? Rambino said it's OK but he said he might want to add a big sub in the trunk :-S

Thanks

Can you take a picture of the amp, I would love to see the size of it, I am trying to decide on the 475 or the 555.

Here you can see the size in the hands of a man; quite small

No problems with it at all. the subs defn. get enough power as i have turned the gain down to avoid cracking and oversounding the other speakers..

the sws is as good as you can get without putting a sub in the trunk.. im pretty happy with it now, and wont add one..

This setup really makes a nice impressive change and is very easy to install

One other thing.

I take it that the sub outputs all bass from channels 1/2 from the sub output if you don't hook up a dedicated sub input??

And I guess that the change will be higher if you change the front and rear speakers
