I keep forgetting I have shortcuts!

Even on a recent long road trip, I keep forgetting that I have the 6 programmable buttons for iDrive, and the MODE button for audio sources. I never used them, and kept using iDrive menus.

I'll have to force myself to start using them!

Is there a shortcut button for cleaning the lemon leather, because by all accounts it gets dirty really quickly.

Sometimes my shortcuts (radio stations) don't work well. I find myself pressing those buttoms 2-3 times to make them work.

I have found that lemon is no harder to clean, nor does it get any dirtier than any other color. I like that the girly-men are scared of it though - it keeps it exclusive!!

I just returned from my 335 ED vacation. The only shortcut button I could program was one that goes straight to the IPOD. I tried to set one up to go to the EQ settings; it told me it couldn't. One to go to the Trip Computer; it told me it couldn't. One to display the main navigation menu; it told me it couldn't. One to just show a map, facing north; it told me it couldn't.

Now, I didn't RTFM, so maybe there is documentation of what iDrive settings you can actually shortcut, but it sure seems very limited in what you can configure as a shortcut.

I even made sure that my comfort access key was in the slot, as the delivery guy explicitly said that those types of customization settings required the key to be in the slot.

Do you have a different experience with setting up arbitrary shortcuts?

Maybe we should start a thread where folks post their shortcut "sets."

I found it strange you can't create a shortcut to say "enter new destination" where it's not an entry but an option choice in the menu, for this you still have to use iDrive...

Its already been discussed...your delivery guy was clueless.

You can only set;
Sat stations, radio stations, CD, phone numbers, aux input or map location (for example "home").

Yes, that would be more useful than a specific location...
...seems odd that you can program a location, since if you use it enough to program it to a button, you should have been able to figure out how to get there by now...unless your very slow.

The only thing I use it for is to program home, that way when I am in a new location I can simply push 5 and it sends me home.

Well, that seems like a very critical omission that we can just be at a screen and set a shortcut to that screen. In that way, the shortcut buttons would really just act as "macro" buttons that perform the proper sequence of turns, clicks, and "shifts" to get the system from the "home" screen into the condition when you set the shortcut.

I should clarify that it was the car telling me that I couldn't set those shortcuts, not the ED delivery guy (note the use of "it" and not "he" when I was describing the feedback I was getting).

All the delivery guy said was that in order for that type of stuff (including the door-locking behavior or the triple-turn signal behavior) to get saved to the key, it has to be in the slot (even if the key is a CA key).

iDrive continues to be a complete clusterfuck (version 25.x??!!) and yet people continue to actually like it and defend it. Absolutely boggles the mind.

I was referring to this:

Anyone find it annoying that the shortcut buttons pop up on the iDrive nav screen even when your hand is near it (i.e. modifying volume using the knob, changing the air from fresh to recirc)?

thats actually a feature...touch the key and all the soft keys appear on screen to remind you of their function. I like it.

Yes! They say the memory is the second thing to go. I can't remember what the first was.

I haven't experienced that... I have to lightly touch the buttons to get the tabs. How fat are your fingers?

You should file a complain with bmwNA that they need to add a shortcut to remind you to use the other 6 shortcuts

you would think that bmw would accomudate you after buying 3 bmw from them in a span of 12 months

The 6 Prog Shortcut buttons only appear on vehicles built after March 1 2007.

Is it that bad? I have a March 2007 production and I have never used iDrive before this, I honestly don't find it to be a cluster fuck.
