Hello all,

I'm currently looking at doing ED lease on a 335i coupe. I do have a few questions (I'm sure people have ask this question before and I can do a search but I have a condition call searhbobic, lol). How does MF work on an ED lease? You don't get your car for at lease 4 months, do the dealership locked in the MF at time of deal or when you pick up your car? How do you make sure the dealership don't screw you over if MF is not finalized until you pick up your car in the US.

you should specifically ask them to lock it, then they will give you the best rate out of the 2 (rate @ arrival, rate @ ordering time)

4 months seems too long, should be 6-8 weeks.

have things in writing will guarantee that. if they screw with you, then you can go to another dealer and have them dealer-trade that car and get the same car for you

Also keep in mind the MF goes up .003 with all ED's. It still works out to be much cheaper going the ED route though.

Since BMW will cover your second payment, they will mark up the MF by .0003 to make up for it. It only takes 6-8 weeks for your car to arrive at your dealership. Many dealers will let you sign for the car 2 weeks before your pickup date. Your MF is locked in for 90 days so if it goes down, you can go with the lower MF and if it goes up, you wont have to worry about it.

As others have said, the MF is marked up slightly to compensate for the fact that BMW pays your second lease payment.

The MF is locked at the time you make your first payment, which is around 2 weeks before you leave for Munich. Many dealers will give you the benefit of any rate changes- in other words, they'll lock the rate at the time you order, and, if the MF goes down between the time you place your order and the time you have to make your first payment, they'll re-do the paperwork to get you the better rate.

Wow Lassaxi, you got your car quick! Was 5/3 when you dropped it off or when you picked up the car? If so, when did you leave it at the shipping company?

Yup. It also takes about the same time for it to get back to the states from the day you drop it off at Harms (if you do ED).

Edit: if you're doing regular purchase, it takes 6-8 weeks from the day you order your car to the day you pick it up at the dealer. If you're doing ED, it takes 6-8 weeks from the day your drop it off at Harms (shipping company for ED cars). BMW requires that you place an order at least 6 weeks before your pick up date if you're doing ED. So the fast it could take for ED is 12 weeks.

I picked up the car at the delivery center (old center, not the Welt) on May 3, dropped it off at Harms on May 7. It took about 5 weeks, which is about average for the Northeast.

From the time you ordered? No. You need to place your order a certain amount of time before you go to Munich to pick it up. I don't remember exactly what the minimum lead time is. I ordered in February for a May ED, but that was way more lead time than I needed to give.

From the time you drop the car off at Harms until the time it arrives back in the U.S. is. on average 4-6 weeks if you live on the east coast, and 6-8 weeks if you live on the west coast. For some, it's a little quicker, for others, a little slower.

It doesnt hurt to order now. But if not, you could order in June. BMW requires at least 6 weeks from date of order to pick up date. So say you order beginning of June, you can pick it up mid-July or end of July. Assuming you spend a week there you would drop it off beginning of August (maybe 3rd or 4th depending on when you're picking up in July). It takes a week or so for the car to get on a boat. So figure that your car will begin its journey across the oceans in mid-August or so. It takes about 6-8 weeks for it to arrive at your dealership so you should get it around 10/11 (maybe a week or 2 sooner).

Note: I would order it in May or sooner and have the date set. You should also time it out so that the car arrives a few weeks before 10/11 just so you have room to spare in case it takes longer than expected (damage during transportation, etc.)

I would suggest checking with your local CA to see what they suggest, but here is my very rough guideline:

Give it 8 weeks to get across the pond to be safe. Thus, I would plan to drop the car off at Harms no later than 8/5/08 or so to be safe. Factor in however long you want to stay in Europe. Back up a couple of months from that for the order, and I would say you should be placing your order by roughly early-mid June. That should give you more than enough lead time.
