4th of july drive! (thread is pic heavy)

Me and a few friends where camping in the sugarpine area and decided to take the long way home, through the twisties. It was a very fun drive. Me and the g35 where the only cars in our group that where "performance" cars if you know what I mean... (That poor mitsubishi couldn't keep up)

The g35 did pretty good on the twisties, but would always get behind on the straitaways. But man, that exhaust note is nice. (he has some aftermarket exhaust that magnifies the already cool infinity sound.)

The only problems we encountered where:

335i- After about 20-30 minutes of on and off WOT and engine breaking my oil heated up and at about 250-260 degrees the car told me to cut that sh!t out by going into limp mode. So we stopped to cool down and take some pix.

g35- After doing donuts in a secluded field for a few minutes he had to cool down because of no airflow while he was doing donuts. His water was boiling.(see open hood pix)

Mitsubishi galant- Couldn't keep up. Lol, and smelled horribly of brakes everytime we stopped somewhere.

Anyway here are some pix.

Car looks great! You should have your corner markers deleted via programming. Makes the AE's stand out more.

Looks like it was a fun drive.

Yours is getting into limp mode so fast because that lip is blocking off the air tunnel leading to the oil cooler.

^ no, mine is just one of the few 07 builds that didn't come with an oil cooler.

If I decide to do more track driving/ canyon driving, I'm gonna put in an oil cooler myself.

Weird that it went into limp mode at 260F. Mine did not go into limp mode even at 300F.

It's set to go into limp at 270. If your oil is 260+ you should stop to cool down.

It's wierd that yours doesnt go into limp past 270.

Not sure where you got that number from.

An oil temperature of 302F is when "limp mode" starts. There are varying levels of limp mode.

There's also "limp mode" based on coolant temperature that starts around 243F. If your oil was at 260-270, I highly doubt that your coolant was anywhere near that threshold unless something is wrong with your car.

Is your coolant in good condition and is it full? What oil are you using?
