WTF..its coming off??
Took my plate off again today and as I was kneeling down putting in the screws I looked up and noticed this. Its only on the right side on the back of the spoiler. The left side is on there pretty solid and so is the entire front. I tugged pretty hard and it didnt move a bit.
Should I be concerned?? **disclaimer filthy car** Last edited by Sara; 08-09-2012 at 06:45 PM.. |

Did you use the double sided tape that came already on it? You will most likely want to get stronger stuff from Home Depot or some betalink. I had to re-tape mine on each corner with stronger stuff. It hasnt moved since.

3M tape does that occasionally. You should use something a little more permanent *epoxy* if you don't like the slight lifting.

Get the adhesion kit from tischer.
Here is the link, the part number should be in the description. (Double check part number to make sure it's the right one) http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462

BTW apply even pressure on it for a few hours to get a nice bond. (I read up on it since this is my next mod.)

This is why I messaged you about it! Anyway, I think 3M tape is fine, it's some strong stuff and there's a lot of members here with 3M on their performance spoiler. It just depends on how it's put on. From your previous post when you took a pic of it underneath with that slim strip of 3M tape, was that all that was used? Cause you'll definitely need more than that.

I just did mine last week, The trick is to use an adhesion promoter. Then it has to sit for a few hours with pressure on it and avoid direct sunlight (heat) for a few days. That is definately not something you want falling off.

Quote:
Take the spoiler off Clean the spot where it's going to go with water + vinegar mix (I use more water than vinegar) dry it put spoiler back on with 3m tape use painters tape and apply it so that it's pulling it down onto the car. Use the tape everywhere and don't be cheap. Take tape off in a few hours and it should be fine.

A couple tips:
1) Don't use one long piece of tape since it has a tendency to shrivel just like yours did. Add relief cuts all along the length of the spoiler and use shorter pieces of tape. 2) Use some heat when applying and also keep it taped down for a while with painters tape. It's hard to get it sitting totally flush and flat so there's always a force pulling up against the tape so if it's not fully adhered it will pull the edges off. If that doesn't work try to rough up the surface of the spoiler to create some ridges for the tape to bite into and maybe even use an adhesion promoter. The tape will stick to your trunk like glue, you just need to make sure the tape can properly adhere to the surface of the spoiler.
