interesting comments, okay so can anyone advise what the RPM on a 335d is at 60mph, 70mph and 80mph in 6th Gear compared to the 330d (manual)?

As much as i want the 335d, it could be a 330d is my better option.

From BMW data.

335d/330d auto: 6th Gear Ratio 0.691; Final Drive 2.81; NOTE: Both the same.

330d Manual: 6th Gear Ratio 0.835; Final Drive 2.35

Using a tyre RC of 1940mm (for either a 255/40 R17 or 255/35 R18) and a mph conversion of X 0.6214; my math says.

335d in 6h gear is 37.25mph per 1,000rpm. True 80mph = 2,148rpm
330d manual in 6th gear is 36.86mph per 1,000rpm. True 80mph - 2,170rpm.

So nothing it it really, for all combinations in the 330d & 335d.

You can work out the other mph/rpm's from there.

Brilliant! thanks very much Pete for working this out, so based on the circumference of the wheel rotation being 1940mm then there is no real marked difference in rpm between both gearboxes.

On another note i am still waiting to here back from my local dealer (i say local but its a 65 mile round trip ) about them sourcing a 335d for me to try, they have offered me a go in there 330d but i want to do a back to back comparison and that way i will know exactly which one i prefer.

Thanks for all the comments so far, the information and response has been excellent.

I have improved my mpg from 32 to 42 in the last two weeks. (on the same drive - 100 miles mainly motorway)
It was running cold, so replaced the EGR thermostat. Very easy DIY. 30.
Mpg average went from 32 to 38.
thread here
Changed the red boost pipe. DIY possible 140. Mine was covered under warranty.
mpg went from 38 to 42.
thread here

Hope this helps someone who is getting poor fuel consumption!

My temps aren't getting past 85 in this weather unless i go into town then its 90+ on these hot days.

I'm thinking of changing the EGR thermostat, did you ever find a diy guide?

Good improvement, i get anywhere from 32-36mpg now but does nudge 40 on m-way trips.

well, since installing my JBD, other than the first tank where I was totally addicted to the new found urgency, my fuel economy has gone up!

My commute which is 80% motorway, used to be between 34 and 36 depending on traffic, now it is between 40 and 42! Managed 51.3 on a 20 mile motorway run the other day.

True test will be a 250 mile journey to essex in 2 weeks, highest ive managed before was 46mpg.

I managed 17mpg over the first half of my first tank after the JBD though

My average is 24.5

Which is pretty good. I only used to get 26 in the E90 so -1.5 mpg for extra 150bhp is pretty good

The average is exactly same as before the remap..

Firstly and please don't take this the wrong way if a 335d is your dream car then please take some time and broaden your horizons. that's not to say that the 335d isn't a lovely car, I'm sure it is. Merely to point out that you may be thinking of the dream car given your specific requirements, circumstances etc.

I've not read the whole thread but for a great allrounder I'm +1 for the 330d option. Tbh I've never seen the point of the 335d or 535d unless an auto is absolutely required (this only applies to autos of a certain age). If you want power and a little bit of excitement and can handle sub ~40mpg on a cruise then consider a 335i.

Btw my dream car (atm) is a 911 GT2RS
