He was a terrible driver then. But maybe he wanted to test me so he was not really pushing his car. How can a heavier 330 able to keep behind a much lighter boxter? Maybe it was the old boxster too...

if you go old enough with a bosxter they only had 207 hp (new S is over 280)

they'd still ream a 3 series on a road course though

My brother (06 330i) & My friend(04 G35 Coupe) both Automatic, ran several runs together. During our testing race, we've noticed G pulled away from e90 everytime upto 110mph but then you can see e90 slowly catching up. From the dead stop, it's pretty much head to head but G was bit ahead. I think depends on driver, new 330i should be able to keep up/beat G35 Coupe(When they are both manual/automatic)(330i Manual can eat G35 Automatic, but hey...). Current 330i is alot faster than (Probalby 0.5 sec faster on 0-60) old 330i. And current 330i is faster than old 330ci(We've also tested this). And you are comparing Boxter or Boxter S? If it's Boxter S...dude go out there and try, make sure you don't cry.

my buddy has a new S,
the only 3 that stands a chance is the M3

The base boxster should still take the 330 down (even in a straight line)

I would like an explanation for this comment. how would our 330i "eat" S2000 beyond 62mph?

Other than the other money factor, I don't like the idea of my kids driving a 330i, but a 323i sounds like fun for everyone; the kids won't even drive our boat flat-out - and I wouldn't want them to accidentaly scare themselves one day - but 140 through the esses along the 409 still sounds like fun (except my old Civic was good for 160kph through there, easy). But, whatever car comes home in the spring, I plan on dumping those heavy OEM rims for something a lot faster, to compensate for the run-flats.

The 330i is plenty fast for street use. It accelerates fast enough to consistently concern my passengers and zip past whatever I like on the freeway.

What I love about the e90 though is the cornering. I was on a BMW CCA drive this last weekend and the man in front of me had a C55. In each straight away he'd gain 5 or 15 feet, but as soon as the road would bend I'd come right up on him. For the second half of the drive, I led and pulled away over 40 feet a couple times. The exit speed is just great, and the braking is so even.

If the 330 is too slow for you, you're driving too fast for public roads.

No way 330 can take down a Porsche B on a track - Porsches are track beasts, even unmodified they can skinn the competition alive.

A friend of mine (who also does trackdays) has a 2002 BoxsterS(260BHP?)Maybe newer ones have more BHP?

On a straight road from 100kmh(62mph) to 200kmh(125) the cars are the same.Beyond that speed up to 240kmh(149) the E90 is even a bit faster.

Another thing, my former E46 330i vs a BoxsterS was just as fast from 160-220kmh...but becaus that was on a Autobahn near Koblenz that doesn't count

S2000 doesn't stand a chance beyond 100kmh in a straight line. vs the E90 330i.

has anyone tried timing a 0-60 run using the
timer in the idrive or any timer?
I'm very curious because it is always so
different in the real world. In my previous
330i(auto) all the magazine + various numbers
i saw were about 6.7-6.9 but when I measured
with a timer I could never get under 7 no matter
how hard I tried. Usually around 7.2 so i'm just curious.
One thing about BMW's, the 0-60 times dont do
them justice because they feel SO much faster in real
life driving. For example, I got a rental 325xi once(I think
rated at 8.9 sec to 60) but you never would of guessed that
if you didnt know the numbers because it felt SO quick!
When I test drove the A4 3.0 which is relatively quick( i think
7.2), it actually felt quite sluggish. Why is that?

Why is this? I asked for an explanation.
S2000 runs just about similar time as 330i. The new ones with bigger engine, better torque and more aggressive gearing is capable of high 13s stock. I haven't seen a single 330i 6spd hitting anytime like that *yet*.
They also trap very similar. IIRC, they are both capable of trapping high 90s. Just like any other honda 4cyl, S2000 is all about top-end. S2000 pulls on G35 6spd both from a low-speed roll and high-speed roll.

Properly driven S2000 is fast. Most s2k owners doesn't know how to take advantage of it.

it's slower than a 7. I'm not saying a 330 is slow (1 sec slower than IS???)

but it's not fast,

fast is a merc AMG 700ft lb silly thing
fast is an M5

the 3 is a well balanced car with decent power and wonderful handling
but it's not fast, even for a 4 door I'll give it quick at best

Maybe I should clarified. For this discussion, maybe we should narrow it down to 4D doors cars between $35K-$45K. That should narrow down the field. Now does anyone want to put in their 2 cents?
