I'm plannin on getting the OEM Touch up paint from Tischer BMW but I'm second guessing if it's going to work at all with this curb rash I picked up the other night

of course... not! Touch up paint is a very thin layer of paint, it would not able to cover up a small ding. Yours is bad. Sand the surface down a bit and white paint it may help making it less noticable. Just my .02

damn... i might just leave it as is since a paintshop is probably going to charge +$100 for it. i mean will the touch up paint at least cover it up, i'm not looking for perfection, i just want to get rid of the gray scratch as much as possible.

dang... this blows haha. i'm glad it's not as bad as it sounded i guess i'll look around my area, but most likley i'm going to keep it as is save some money for some mods

why not just try sanding it alittle and painting right over see how it comes out first and if it still looks bad then go to a shop but its so low that if you do it yourself i bet itll look fine

Thats beyond paint damage, the actual urethane of the bumper is gouged. It will at the least need to be sanded down, body filler applied, and repainted. Otherwise, it is going to have to be sent out to be reconditioned, then repainted.

Price wise, you're looking at $425-825 depending on the shop and how the bumper is repaired.

If they just remove the bumper and repair the damaged area, and repaint, you're looking at $425. If they need to overhaul the entire bumper because of all the little pieces/grille/washers/etc and have the bumper reconditioned and repainted, it'll be $825.

No amount of touch up will cover that scratch. It's pretty deep. It definitely needs to be filled and sanded down before painting. Have you thought about getting a new front ?

i'm just going to leave it as is. i've thought about buying splitters to cover it but alot of them are too aggressive, trying to find a subtle splitter. just paid $300 for a 24 hour membership and thinking about buying a laptop. i think i can live with the curb rash haha. it's not going to rust so i'm not toow orried about it, it's all cosmetic damage to me :/

When I see this happen to any of my customers cars, I try to offer a fix for them immediately, avoiding the body shop if at all possible (especially on the lowers). I would recommend a spot repair for this damage with an airbrush by somebody who knows their trade. They would fill, sand, prep, prime, base and clear coat then colorsand the area and buff. A cosmetic fix like that would be about $150.00-$200.00.

If a repair like this is done correctly, at 3 feet away doing 65mph nobody will notice the repair....

My suggestion.. get an estimate.. if its more than your deductible.. file a claim.. if its less bite the bullet and pay for it..

if you got anything else that can go under the claim.. take care of that also.. that why we have ins..

No body shop worth a damn would be painting a bumper while it is on the car, there would be no overspray issues, that said, if there is someone out there that plastic welds and is able to mix automotive paint with flex agents and spray outside a booth and still be ok with the AQMD, then more power to them.

I quoted actual prices (and can provide part numbers and sources) for bumper, repair and refinish costs, under 400 would likely be either a hack job, or not using OEM parts (which almost are never available for late model BMWs)

If you have a claim, it is for that one loss, trying to wrap it all up under one claim (oh, this ding, that scratch, this nick, that rash was all from this accident) is fraud and you'll only piss off the insurance adjuster.

Sorry for the multi quote, but this industry is how I have made my living for years, and a big part of it is educating people outside of the industry as to the truth vs. all of the rumors and misconceptions about insurance and auto repairs.

I couldnt agree with you more, I have actually managed a detail shop owned by Irvine BMW at their collision center in Irvine, Ca. But being in this industry for over 23 years, I do know of a mobile repair service that can do all that you mentioned above..............remember this is a quality cosmetic repair only.

FYI - Anytime your vehicle is in a collision center it is susceptable to paint overspray, dust and bag marks.........I saw this day in and day out.......

My experience is that unlike PDR which can magically make dings go away without a trace, touch up paint is quite the opposite. It's just impossible for touch up paint to be not noticeable. And the bigger the defect, the worse it gets. This is coming from someone who just got 11 stone chips from driving behind a dump truck. I got a professional touch-up job and it only makes it so there's no bare metal. It's noticeable but what can I do, drive in a bubble pak instead of on the real road? But it was nice having perfect paint for 2 1/2 years...

A good body shop will be fine they will remove and install the bumper fill that gouge with body filler prime it the refinish with a base clear. You can get it done for about 450. You can go less if you make them leave the bumper on you just wont get clear coat where the bumper meets the fenders
