That's a canny deal - considering the options that it comes with.

Can someone tell me why the cabriolet is always dearer to lease?

Yup, it's a basic M3, I didn't think it was that great but happy to be proved wrong (maybe for 2 years it ain't bad?).

The 'vert is more as more expensive to buy in the first place and probably a smaller market so will depreciate further.

Needs to be DCT though, and I thought 19" wheels are standard on the M3 now?

Must admit, photos of Paul's M3 for sale prompted me to search the AUC site, some pretty nice M3s about for £25k (after negotiation) both E90 & E92. 'verts about £2k more - very tempting and surely cheaper than leasing a brand new one (only real difference is the updated Nav - I'm happy of course with a manual).

I know that but nothing really has changed in the appearance or engine so I'd personally get a used one and avoid the biggest depreciation (the lease effectively covers depreciation so no real difference) - just monthly outlay. Sometimes these lease deals make a new car cheaper than a nearly new car but not a 3 year old one.

as cheap as it may "look" I still wouldnt have one........ With a chipped 335d the M3 is only going to be faster 5% of the time (who really drives a car at 8Krpm+ for any length of time to gain that 5% ?) & it would be like me paying £2.80 a litre & would an M3 driver pay £5.60 a litre for an increase in performance for just 5% of the time ?

What I love about my 335d is that the power is always on tap especially with a remap & no DPF. I drove my mates 535d the other day & was absolutely shocked just how slow it felt to mine. I really felt bad pointing it out to him afterwards. It seriouly fely like a 520d compared to mine. I waited & waited & waited for the surge that I have gotten used to & it just wasnt there. The family of 4 was with me & even they noticed a big, big difference. Yes it was smoother & quieter & the steering was really light but we all noticed the difference in power. The family say being in the back of the 335d feels like you are on the runway taking off.

An M3 to me seems like a sideways move rather than a forward move ( I know many will disagree) but the next step up for me performance wise would have to be a 500bhp+ car.

how much faster do I really want to go http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXHIZ...ature=youtu.be

But the problem with a 3 yr old one could be the unexpected bills Rog, you know, the ones that you don't like!! And the expensive road tax

Seriously, all the M3 has cost me in 3 years is one service at 15k miles and a set of tyres.

The brakes are still showing nearly 50% of their life left and with the warranty anything faulty has been done for free.

You have to factor in some maintenance costs on a used one on top of the monthly payments. As well as 430 per year road tax (or 460? Not sure now but a lot of £'s). This is included on a lease payment

You are covering depreciation for sure, but with a big discount offered to get the new metal moving they can still be good value!

You know me so well

Newer M3's are surely still in the higher tax bracket though aren't they???

It's not always about performance. An M3 carries a standard. A standard of car which exhilarates and makes you feel excited for that split second you do decide to open the taps. That's something a diesel car could never give anyone. Yes, the 330d/335d is quick, especially when re-mapped - but it's just a go faster pedal. There's no excitement like a state of the art 6 cylinder or V8 with a class leading chassis.

I love my 335d remapped and yes it is fast etc in normal driving but I would love to press the loud pedal and push that v8 to the redline.

The M3 is about the experience, not just outright speed. It is engineered to do one thing and it does that perfectly. Something my 35d couldn't hold a candle to

The title of this thread should have been 335D VS M3.

I do agree with you but it's not just about straight line performance, I am sure that you would stay with my 911 in a straight line (rolling) but come to a few bends and you would be lost... It's no different with an m3, remember the m3 is designed to have that performance the 335d is not. It's a modified car, compare like for like and the m3 is faster in every way fact...

Anyway enough of that the old 335d beats everything thread That lease deal is not bad but I am sure creepys deal was a lot better, cheap way to have a new M3 though with the way their values are going...

Ignorance is bliss.

I am very ignorant to a lot of things by the way, don't take that the wrong way.

There is something about and M3 that only a handful of cars manage to offer.
That is the difference.

Just deciding at midnight in December, while it is wet and windy to go for a 2 hour to the coast and back, not something I would ever have done in the 335i, but something that seemed quite normal in the M3.
Until you have owned one you just can't understand then properly, it takes a few weeks of ownership to start to 'really' get an M3, it took me a year to start to realise that it was me bottling it well before the car did, and when I got that it turned it into a whole new animal.

I could enjoy the M3 up round the coast roads and not once break the speed limit, not something you can do in the 335i.
That for me is the real difference between them.

Sounds like a good deal, get it ordered!!

...looking again at it, if it's through a business, and you can reclaim VAT (I can't ), then does look quite good - I wonder how ticking some vital options affects the premium though (quite a bit I'd imagine).

You can only claim half the vat on a car.
And if you did do that you would have to pay the BIK tax, which is £854 a month for those on 40%.

BIK tax is a fukin' joke, how can they charge the employee £854 a month for a car that costs £550 a month??!
