Name That Engine Noise!
I must of been using the wrong keywords but couldn't find a thread about my problem so i'm posting my own, so I apologize in advance if this has been covered already.
I usually do a weekly routine before turning off the car by getting out while the car is on and listen to see if there's any weird noises coming from the engine. I always start at the drivers side underneath the front tire and I heard this weird air noise or could be a pump noise? I don't know, but when I open the engine bay I hear it right under the intake manifold. You need headphones to hear it clearly but here's a video of the noise i'm talking about, you can hear it more towards the end of the video. I can't pinpoint what or where the problem is so any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

That's actually the normal engine noise since I don't have the valve lifter tick issue, try listening more carefully you can hear it if you get pass the ticking noise.

Hahaha, you hear the sucking air noise right? or no? but yeah, the sucking air noise only happens when the car comes from a long drive and is at operating temps but the ticking noise (not the valve lifter tick) i've heard it in all NA cars. Even Jace and Lil Jason makes that noise.

Does it sound like when they start dancing faster in Tinikling? and yeah, I know about that but the ticking noise coming from my engine doesn't tick faster when I press on the gas.

I'd say that engine noise was normal. These engines make a lot more odd noises when cold than when hot. This applies to the valve tick issue too. See this doc:

Agree, sounds pretty normal to me (however, always tricky with vids). At least you don't have the gearbox input shaft rattle that mine has. Touch wood though, my mine does not have particularly noisy lifters, but then she does visit the higher revs often enough and never sees short trips not properly getting up to temperature...
