DIY - Dual BOV Low Cost Setup

So I ordered some parts to experiment a dual BOV setup using the stock chargepipe. I buddy of mine 1ForAll has a similar setup with some early Turbosmart prototypes. I am actually very happy with the results ill give the instructions and give more feedback further down.

--------------------------------------
Update Videos: Note the outside video its an ER Chargepipe instead of stock however its the same thing.

The sound is a bit exaggerated since its in a tunnel, with windows up, you barley hear it. Windows down and flooring it, sounds like video.

Update Cheaper Adapters: Thanks to Ridehard335

I was able to get the pair for $31.90 shipped. They work great at less than 1/2 the price.
The whole setup was under $100 with the plugs and clamps.
$19.99
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GReddy-BOV-M...c62eff871#ht_2
------------------------------------

1. I bought these adapters ($39 each) they have Greddy, TIAL, and HKS BOV type adapters for stock chargepipes. These are specifically made for our 335i N54 Charpepipes so they lock and fit just like stock diverter valves.

Greddy - http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...Category_Code=

Tial - http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...Category_Code=

HKS - http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant...Category_Code=

I bought the Greddy type adapters like the image above.

-------------------------------------
Update:

Updated the BOV these seem to be better the original ones I used worked great when I first put them in but after taking them off and putting them back started getting a little squeal(almost like a brake squeal) after the wooshes. Swapped them out for these never had an issue and they have been taken off and back and off again no issues. I left them at the spring rate they came with but you can adjust them with the screw on top of them.
--------------------------------------

2. I bought some $30 Greddy Type BOVs from eBay specifically these:

eBay BOVs

Honestly very surprised on the quality of the build of these BOVs they dont feel cheap whatsoever pretty heavy as well.

3. Once I received both sets of items I put them together very straight forward.

4. Remove the stock diverter valves and plug the intake holes. What I used is the rubber caps that are put on the bottom of chair legs 7/8 size the 1' should work as well. I got a set of 4 at Lowes. They are pretty tight put I also bought small clamps from pep boys. Here is what it looks like.

5. Its almost too easy but just slide the BOV with the adapter attached into stock chargepipe and lock in place, you can position the BOV in 4 ways I decided to point them down. Connect the two hoses from the back of the BOVs to the stock hose originally connected to the stock diverter valves and your good to go. Here is the final pic of the setup:

This is a pic to show where they slide into you dont have to remove charpepipe or anything like that.

So things you will notice you will have two woosh sounds one right after the other which at first it was different but I actually like it now.

Question that might come up does it sound too ricey you got two BOV for crying out loud?

- Actually just cruising unless you have the windows down and radio off you wont really notice them. Its not an annoying sound that will make you feel like your driving a ricer.

- However when you are stepping on it and let go of throttle you will notice it and thats all I was going for you can adjust the BOVs sensitivity with screws and nut on top of them. I actually had to loosen the rate some.

Any noticeable performance gain or loss any limp mode or boost leaks?

Car runs as strong as always obviously this will not improve performance at least not any noticeable difference. I took the car to the track at FixxFest ran 13.1 which is what I expected in 90 degree weather and after 3 hour drive (JB4 Map 5, BMW DCI, Muffler Delete). No limp mode or boost leak that I can tell and bcz car is running as before that's what I'm basing on the no boost leak.

This is a cheap mod if you drive a BMW you should buy a $600 BOV if not go buy a Honda?!?

I say to each his own if you don't like it and want to criticize it go right ahead wont bother me none. You buy what you want to buy for your car, I buy what I want I'll drop some money on somethings but not BOVs personal preference.

Yeah they slide right into stock chargepipe same size as stock dv valves. Install literally took me 15 minutes fits perfectly.

Its really easy the adapters are made specifically for our diverter valve holes. The hardest part is removing the stock diverter valves. The adapter is exact replica of the nozzle on the stock diverter valve. The grey clip thing you turn to get the diverter valve off is part of the chargepipe not the diverter valve had that misconception as well. You'll see the stock diverter valve has a nozzle that slides into the hole of the chargepipe the adapters slide into the same hole and lock just like the stock diverter valves.

Here is a pic of a stock charpepipe see the two holes the adapters slide into there and locks super easy took 3 minutes to install.

I ended up upgrading the chagepipe since the stock before this one had cracked at the track didnt want same thing to happen to this one. I gave the setup to my friend ill try to get some vids of the sound.

Have you logged AFRs between shifts yet?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but air on the 335 is metered after the maf not before it, hence will run rich with VTA between shifts.

I dont do any logging but from the boost gauge on oil I had been boosting the same as before. My friend that has them now has Cobb and is boosting 18 pounds of boost with no problems.

This not an actual video of them but it sounds exactly like this video. Same loudness and same pfft sound.Next time I hang out with my friend I'll make an actual video of the setup.

Thanks OP. I also found the following plug kit on the adapter site you listed, although pricier:

No real advantage I think just sense the stock chargepipe has two outlets and the outlets diameter is smaller that a traditional bov flange I would think you need both to release boost correctly. However I'm totally guessing you might be fine with just one.

Actually no when the car is not moving it's one loud whoosh. In low rpms you'll notice a small separation in the whooshes but alot quicker than the video. In high boost/rpms it's one loud whoosh. I really have to make a video having gave the setup to my friend it's harder to make. I'll have to try to have one up by next week.
