Base Stereo - Audio Upgrade - MB Quartz 200.3 review
HI Guys,
I am going to update my build thread with the whole process but I think it is worth me making a short post regarding my audio upgrade. First of all got to say a huge thank you to all those who gave me advice on this such as ctuna Ali-323i I have an 07 e93 with base stereo (2 Fronts, 2 underseats, 2 rears). First thing I did a few months ago was purchase a Dynavin and added a 1000w rms 12 inch sub in the boot. As you can guess the bass was great but it drowned out the sound of the actual mids and highs as the stock speakers couldn't handle any kind of volume. Luckily my missus bought me the mb quart 200.3 and nsc 475 amp for my birthday! I finally got round to installing it with the amp and I have got to say it sounds incredible. While doing the install I took the sub out of the boot to give me space to work so once fitted I tested the system without the woofer and it still sounded quite good. I think alot of people alone will be happy with it. After adding the Sub back in it just takes it to another level. I cant explain how good it sounds. having tweeters makes a huge difference compared to just having the front doors. the audio sounds more rounded if that makes sense? If anyone is thinking of upgrading base stereo i would definitely recommend the MB QUARTZ 200.3. I would also recommend amplifying them as well. i know it is a longer process and costs more but I think to get the best out of the speakers they need to be amplified. My understanding is that the dynavin is probably able to power the speakers at around 15wrms whereas tge amplifier is powering them at 75wrms Hope this helps anyone who is looking to upgrade. |

I just fitted the Quartz as well. The sound is a big improvement but the tweeters werent exactly a direct fit. I bought the tweeter housings from BMW but the Quartz tweeters didn't clip into them but when I contacted Quartz they said they just sit in the tweeter hole and the foam holds them in. Needless to say I wasn't very happy about this as the idea of tweeters being held in softly by foam sounded like a recipe for a high frequency buzzing. I ended up using the original none tweeter door sales and cut a hole in them and fit the tweeters with their own grills.

I will be adding MB quarts along with JL600/6 amp and a cleansweep very soon. I just bought the last of connectors for the battery and speakers from ECS . My question is, which speaker did you use on the rear deck.

Many of these speaker sets are 3 way's (tweeter, front doors, underseats) I think many feel like having the rear speakers takes away from the soundstage in the front. If you do want to upgrade your rear speakers though have a look at this thread as there is information about which rears fit. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=343673 |

Man these QM200.3BMW kits are selling for only like $229.99 now. I'm glad I didn't plunk down $600 when I was looking at them a while back. Is everyone just selling off whatever stock they have left?

I did try with the foam but they were just very loose fitting so I preferred to do a little DIY drilling but they look OK.

Congrats on the new setup. I love mine as well!
For the guys asking, a cool tip and trick that I learned from the guys over at MB Quart is that you can use Heat induction tape (can be found at home depot) to secure the tweeter and any other lines you want to tie down. Heat induction tape is pretty much dynamat but thinner and will keep everything down for fraction of the price. Question about the rears, I went ahead and upgraded the rears with MBQuart on my car. They do have a set that they were developing for the rears, but they told me that you can run any of the ones available. Sounds great. |
