Stock 18's on 335i Xdrive

So.. I am picking the car up tomorrow. I knew the storm was coming so I waited a day in the hopes the roads would be clear by then. I have done alot of searching and the consensus seems to be that the 18's that come with the sport package on the E90 Xdrive is not good at all in the snow given they are performance tires. I will eeventually get a winter set.. but I would rather wait until next season to drop them in.

Any have advice and or expereince with these tires up here? I have lived in the climate all my life and pretty experienced with driving in snow but are they that bad that I should not risk it at all?

Any suggestions are welcomed!

Very bad, really really bad for the I but not sure for the xi`s.

Those are summer tires, don't even think about driving in the snow. If it's just cold, it'd be fine.

I learned the hard way, in my first BMW, (E36 328IS) that you can not drive in snow with summer tires.

Does not matter if you have front, rear or all-wheel drive and traction control. If your tires don't stick you will have no traction.

I had all-season M+S tires on my X5 and that sucked in the snow with all-wheel drive!

Most of the side streets that I was on today are still snow covered. I would not drive a brand new BMW with summer tires until the roads are clear. Can you delay the pickup for another day or two?

I am going to assess it this afternoon. Its all highway from Norwood to Arlington, (95 to Rt 2 and I am right off the highway. As long as I don't go crusing around until the snow melts. I'll let the dealer know my concern and have him on speed dial until I get it into my driveway. If its still bad, I will delay it until later in the week. I am still at a dilemma.. I don't want to have to get a winter setup and put them on for just 3 more weeks.. Arghh!!

If your roads are dry and clear you'll be fine. I drove my 335i to work today but we only got about 8-10 inches so I'm sure you got more. Honestly, with those tires, it doesnt matter whether you have XDrive or not, they are not good, and I can attest to that as Ive fishtailed on less than a dusting of snow just in my driveway. Post some pics when you get it and hope everything goes ok.

I drove mine through a couple of storms with the summer 18's. Was kind of scary. Just need to be really careful stopping and turning. With no snow falling or actually on the streets you'll be fine.

I was in the same boat, picked up my new E92 335xi with 18's today after getting snowed out yesterday! Had to drive it from Shrewsbury to Boston, but roads were pretty much dry once I got out of the dealer's lot. It's safely (I hope) tucked away in the garage and I'll definitely use my old Saab if the snow returns...

Ordered it 12/19 so it's been a long ass wait! Pics to follow....

My '06 E53's Energy's frigging blow in the snow. Actually, they suck in general. I'm swapping them out for scorpions, ASAP. My E90, with ZSP and OEM conti M+S are great. I took it out down in SC with 3 inches of crap on the roads, and couldn't lose traction even with DSC off and my handbrake. IMO, you'll be fine, if you're OCD, flatbed it.
The only potential issue, is the ride height if its unplowed, but since MA is much better than Maine, I'm sure you're plowed by then...

I eventually put a set of Yokohama Geolanders on my X5. They were cheaper than the OEM Michelin tires and traction was a night and day difference.

Besides driving with them in snow, the temperature matters a lot with those tires.
They aren't meant for temps below 50 degrees.
Congrats on your new car though.
I live right down the street from U in Littleton.
I would'nt want them on my car with the temps below 50 degrees-they follow the ruts
in the road too much.
You would be served well with a winter setup.
