I-drive/Navi error - Disk Scratched

Yesterday while driving back from a friend's house, I noticed the smaller screen where I usually have the NAVI up is displaying the vehicle's data instead. I went to the main menu and clicked "Navigation" and there was an error message saying to check the disk, the navi is unable to read.

I checked the disk and there are severe scratches on the outer part of the disk. I put the disk back in and it runs fine for about 5 minutes and that error pops up again.

Has anyone ever experienced the NAVI drive scratching the disk to the point where it's not readable anymore?

I made an appointment for next week but this totally sucks. I only had the car since Feb 08 and they gave me a brand new navi disk when I picked her up.

ask the dealer if they'll replace your disc... otherwise, make a copy of it (your computer can probably still read the disc) and run your nav using the dvdr.

+1, a good DVD drive can read through unreal amounts of damage, albeit very slowly.

If not, you could also have the surface of the disc refinished. If the scratch isn't so deep that it damaged the data layer then it just might work. Blockbuster over here offers these services.

I actually stopped by the dealer today to have it checked out. The SA gave me an appointment for Jan 12 and advised the drive is eating the disk. They are going to replace the drive and give me the 2009 disk!!! woohoo, can't wait.

Nice, so I guess that the loading mechanism is off by a mm or two and chewing the disc up.
