(flaw) DEFA inline coolant heater and battery charger

Local dealer here in Canada offering a DEFA inline coolant heater and battery charger combo for CDN$850 (installed).

Sounds good, but a fatal flaw, in my opinion, is that you cannot separate out the two functions operationally.

For instance, if you want to charge the battery, you will also be heating your coolant. I asked whether there was a temperature sensor in the inline heater so that, if the coolant was already warm enough, it would not engage the heating element. Nope. No sensor.

Why is this a flaw? Because I still want to charge my battery in the summer but NOT heat my coolant at the same time.

Just scratching my head wondering why it is set up like this...
