Nintendo Wii - Advice
Hi - i know there are a few "gamers" on here so wondered if you could help.
Im wanting to buy a Wii before Xmas - got loads of family and friends coming to ours this year and wanted something fun and entertaining etc. I want the Black Wii - the limited edition one - but ive no idea from therein what is the best thing to buy. I guess the motion plus handle thingys are the best ones to get?? Can anyone recommend which games to get - do i need the sports and resort package etc??? Help and guidance much appreciated. Steve

Steve,
I have a Wii and I also have the new Kinect from Microsoft, I would say try the Kinect first and you will see that the Wii feels a little old hat. With Kinect there are no controllers and you can get the sports or adventures and Joyride is great. If you can try one, there is nothing else on the market like it. If it's not for you then sports and mario kart is great over christmas |

If you opt for the Wii mate I'd definately get Wii Fit (not sure if there's a newer version or not) and the balance board. You stand on the board and lean to steer, etc, and is great fun, especially after a Christmas Sherry or two. There are some great little mini games on the disc (along with the yoga, stretching, balancing stuff).
Other games are compatible with the board but not sure which. The Wii would be good for your little one too (not that the others aren't). Loads of fun mini games which are simply to understand and do - I've got one called something 'xxxx Carnival' which is fun and my little girl likes. Wii Sports is a must for party games for all to join in too. To be honest if you just spend 10 minutes on ebay you'll hoover up loads of great party games which have been used but you'll save a packet. You can pick up loads of a fiver or less... This is the sort of package that would suit you perfectly (might need a second, or even third & fourth controller) -: http://www.play.com/Games/Wii/4-/131...rlrefer=search

Don't bother with the wii. The lack of games and the low resolution will annoy you after the fun factor has worn off.
Get a PS3 with move or the Xbox 360 with kinect.

I've got a Wii for sale if you're interested? Mint condition, balance board, 2 controllers with nunchucks and about 8 games.
£150 + postage.

I don't own any game consoles but I've tried out Wii and I've tried out X-box & Playstation.
Wii I can turn it on and play it. X-Box and Playstation have a major learning curve which I can't be bothered with. Less is more. |

Not quite sure what learning you need to do, kicking a ball or running is the same in the game as it is in real life. Thats the point of Kinect, you do not need to learn how play as it's stuff you already do

As others have said both the PS3 and XBox are technically better than the Wii. What hasen't been said is you need composite connections for the Wii whereas the XBox and PS3 are HDMI. For non-serious use, the Wii is a laugh, Wii sports and Wii fit are great party games.

Not wanting to thread jack or anything, but I have just reinstated my Wii and am getting back into it (sort of).
I have managed to sync it with wireless router but am not sure how I play against other people on line, not looking for serious gaming but the boy would love to play his cousin at mario etc, anyone doing this Thanks MB |

Whilst its true its not in some ways a match of xbox/ps3, some games are great, and perfect for guests to get into without being too geeky.
E.g. 4 player action on Mario Kart is always great fun, easy to play, easy for non-gamers to get involved in and enjoy. You'll need 4 controllers mind (or get guests to bring some)! |

Just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who has replied to my thread - very helpful.
Im not a gamer at all - in fact im really not into them or bothered with them in any way - but ive got lots of kids, friends and family coming over to our home this Xmas and im simply looking for entertainment value as opposed to the very best in gamer technology and/or graphics etc. The Wii just looks "fun" to me - and ive very little doubt that once Xmas is out of the way and everyone has gone back home, that i will pack it up and put it straight in the loft or sell it on here for pennies!!!!! I just want the BLACK version because it looks better - and i want to get the most entertaining games etc available - i also appreciate i need the motion plus handle things and probably need FOUR of them.

For what you want the Wii is definately what you need. For good fun gaming that anyone can have a bash at the Wii sports games / karts are great fun.

hi steve
for great family fun i dont think at present the wii can be beaten (imo) the graphics aren't great and other consoles offer much more, but knowing you it will be back up for sale on here in the new year!! mario kart is a must for kids and adults wii sports wii resorts - think you need action plus controller wii fit can be addictive (and good for the lady with the bump) GAME often have deals on and good advice happy hunting
