Also had to file mine down when I got it about a year ago.

Payment info is on the first page first post.
I've heard this a couple times, it seems it is not a perfectly direct fit on all. However it was on the components I designed it for. At the end of the day it seems from what I've been told the fix is really minor and simple. Glad it worked out for you and you see the difference. Quote:

Also a question, how much resistance is the stock valve suppose to put up? I was able to easily push in the orange plastic piece on mine. I could blow though it easily in one direction, but not the other like a check valve. Thanks Rob!

You are correct. It was by design to fit tightly in those "fingers", which is to hold that valve snug in place.
The valve flow is directional, it seals tight one way and is variable flow the other. From a simple test of blowing through, it would have results of 0 flow one way and be fairly simple to blow through the other way. The check valve (other side of the PCV system), allows airflow both ways- one way is wide open but has an airflow limiter in the other direction. Rob Quote:

I put a little bit of light grease on mine and it took a little playing but it slide right into the cap once you get the angle correct!
Rob - just to make sure, you reuse the o-ring off the old check valve on the new one or does it not need it? (talking about the valve itself, not the cover)

The intent was to not need to reuse the original valves o-ring. But it certainly wouldn't hurt either, provided the valve still slips into final position after its in place. In short, shouldn't be necessary as no one else has likely done it- but don't see how it could hurt anything either.
Btw, I hope to have the aluminum replacement caps available in the next 2 weeks. Thanks, Rob Quote:

I transferred the o-ring from the old to the new, no issues, so its probably a take it or leave it deal.

FYI. There have been a few in the past year or so who have reported accidentally overtightening their PCV valve cap and cracking or breaking it while doing as such. It is plastic and can be a little brittle at times, so it can happen. We finally have the cure for that, the RB PCV Screw-On Cap for the N54. This compliments the RB PCV Valve nicely as well as adding some security in knowing the cap breaking is no longer much of a concern.
Note: Be careful even with this new robust cap as the valve cover is still plastic and can break if the cap is tightened excessively, which again spells problems. Due to likely low interest, and the need to (hopefully) recover investment in this cap, we have to price it at $80 plus shipping. |
