I BLEW 2 Potenzas Today !!!!

This morning, I was driving back from JFK airport on Rockaway Blvd. (Which is in terrible condition and always has been)
I was surrounded by huge trucks and was essentially boxed in. I notice that the MORON next to me (on a cell phone of course which is ILLEGAL in NY) is drifting into my lane. I blow my horn, she snaps back. I then look forward to see the HUGE truck in front of me pass over what looks like something in the road that should be avoided, sort of a combination ridge and sharp pothole. I have very little time to slow down and NOWHERE to veer.
I managed to slow down a bit before hitting whatever it was BOOM-BOOM !
was what it actually sounded like. One minute later, I get a warning in iDrive: telling me that my Left front tire has lost air pressure. GREAT, I think I fu*ked up the tire on a 2 1/2 month old car and I may had destroyed the rim as well.
I arrived home 2 minutes later and inspected the tire. I was relieved to find NO rim damage... but then I spotted the REAR tire: It had a HUGE bulge in the sidewall. I called Hassel BMW in Freeport and brought it right in. Final cost for both tires installed: $810.
I am just hoping that I caused no other damage to the car. I assume that since both rims remained undamaged that this is unlikely.
Assuming I can find the exact spot again AND take pictures, has anyone had luck collecting from NY for something like this ?
Also, any opinions on tire Insurance ?

Thanks,

Joseph

Hearing stories like this (and others) makes me feel so much better for getting bent over on the Tire & Wheel package I bought with my 335i. I think it was $900 or $1000, but you almost spent that much in 2 1/2 months! If you live in an area with crappy road conditions (and I'd say Seattle qualifies), then I feel the insurance is good deal.

But I've had good luck with extended warranties (which is a mixed blessing, since it means I've needed them.) I've had a washing machine replaced, two DLP bulbs replaced, a laptop repaired and the transmission on my Dodge Durango repaired. Probably a few others that I've forgotten about. So now I usually spring for the extended service plan. They just don't make things like they used to.....

They're runflats! Way overpriced for the little extra peace of mind IMO.

2 Bridgestone Potenza RFTs for the rear run $705 shipped from the Tire Rack (OE Sport tire.) That is before mounting/balancing locally, which will probably run $40/wheel (based on Tire Rack's installation pages.) So that totals about $785. So $810 isn't too far off for a local shop....

$810 installed is not far off especially from the dealer. You should've asked to get a through checked on the wheels though. But since they didn't say anything and mounted on the wheels you should be good.

Sorry to hear about that bs. Same thing happened to me with only 400miles of the car.

I have 1 front and 1 rear rft for the 335i sport with 400miles on each, no damage.

If you are interested in purchasing for a fraction of what the stealership wants, hit me up.

Good Luck.

I was wondering about this, too. Is it feasible to get a state to pay for damage caused by road hazards on poorly maintained roadways?

Don't know about a state, but there was a lady who won against the city recently for damages done to he 325i and collected around $2500

It took her 18months and she had to prove that the city was negligent in repairing the pothole that caused the damage ( very hard to do)

Not yet, I believe it is a bit off now and as a result, I'm even more depressed.

I needed to get to work that day and they were nice enough to take me with no appointment in spite of being very busy. I was out of there in 1 1/2 hours.

I am bringing it back to Hassel Monday.

The cost: $160

Unhappy

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, I am waiting on my 335i coupe and going back and forth on wether I should get the tire insurance, my dealer wants around $950 for it, but the more I'm reading the more I think I should get it.

It really sucks that we have to pay so much for a car like this and then have to deal with the issues of the these run flats!

Get used tires. I sold all 4 of mind for $700. (700 miles only)
Why pay twice of price for the same thing.
