What is this thing?

I was installing my JB4 and found this little sensor looking thing that was unattached to anything and just loosely tucked between the white box holding DME and the fender well. I am guessing it was originally hanging off the cowl. The cowl has been deleted by the PO on my 335i E92. Is there a better thing to do with it than tuck it back down in there where I found it?

I think it's called the AUC sensor? It's part of the vent system and is supposed to close the vents when it detects odors or particulates or something like that. Usually tucked up on the cowl right where the wiper arm is.
