Seems like there are guys drag racing high horsepower xi's who beat the snot out of them have failures. When your in the low 11's maybe high 10's day in and out, there are going to be some broken front diffs. It sounds like there are random failures as well but doesn't seem like a lot.

If you look on the xi forum, the documented failures seem to gear related. The fact that the fluid capacity is small doesn't help.

What would be really cool is an LSD solution for the xi front diff but that's probably too much to hope for…

M factory group buy ?

Fi'n awesome. I'm not ready at the moment, maybe in a few months.

MFactory, what kind of unit do you propose to supply ? Interested. As mentioned, would love a front LSD for the xi. Possible if not cost prohibitive ?

Would be our Helical LSD

From looking at the images, doesn't look too complicated to do, so pricing should be same as our rear LSD

Are you wanting to just build the carrier portion to go into the factory housing, a billet diff of your own design, or one that fits into my design? I am designing mine around using the gm 7.2 gears since those can come in 3.08 and other gear selections, though unfortunately there isn't a 3.46 option for the autos

If you are wanting to design and build the entire front diff, then I wouldn't need to go any further on mine haha. If you wanted to work together I could do that too!

I believe what Mfactory is talking about is fitting a helical gear setup into the existing pumpkin, I cannot comment on it being stronger than the existing open setup but I imagine it could be depending on how much money is spent.

Yes, replacement Diff only (not the carrier, nor the Ring & Pinion).

It will definitely be stronger than the oem Diff (whether that matters or not), but what will definitely be of benefit is the increased traction.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the failures seem to be ring gear related ? If so, some kind of treatment of the ring gear to strengthen it would would potentially be beneficial ?

Apologies if I am threadjacking.

I think there's a lot of problems with the factory front pumpkin.. the carrier looks weak, the housing is split in an odd spot with nothing constraining the shear load other than friction, the spider gears look weak, the ring and pinion are relatively small, and the ball bearings seam to have more backlash than necessary. As the pinion gear starts to push load into the ring, it looks like it would be able to climb into a slight misalignment. Also not a lot of fluid volume.

F Diff

I hope this can be made at a reasonable price point to hold 750-800 lbs. of torque. People are going to be building blocks very soon and this will be right in the wheel house as a necessity. I appreciate the efforts to date and look forward to see more.

I'm kinda saddened that it's been almost a year since this thread started and no success, prototype, our anything. I would be willing to pay 3k for a strong front diff with a LSD. An Xi that can have 2 LSDs and can actually be lauched would be amazing.

If anyone can make a tested proven transfer case at a reasonable price put me down for the group buy.

Great idea, who has access to or knowledge of both diffs to figure out if anything is compatible.
