If thats BMW's response to the programme,it's as though they are saying:

"Nothing to see here,move along".

I'd imagine plenty will move on,straight to another manufacturer, and BMW will get what they deserve hopefully.............a massive fall in sales.

Not sure whether that means all "new" 5-series are protected or just those made after Sept 2011.

Pretty standard big-manufacturers-piss-off-type message

It typical fooking political answer.

'Yes we have started the procedure and done on following cars.'

And that is very much of it. Nothing will happen on other models.

Certianly, not a satisfactory response.

Actually I was thinking to move on to Merc or Audi.
Unfortunately, Audi can be stolen in the same way and I have heard that Merc is even easier.

Not sure how true is that.

Why only recall pre 2011 X5s?

It seems odd to say there isn't really a problem, but we are recalling one model although quite a few are the very same.

I'm 50% happy given I have a pre 2011 X5 but 50% unhappy as I also have an E92 ..... will be phoning the dealer tomorrow to book in the X5 but from postings on another forum its a full day reprogramming. There is NOOOOOOOOO way they could ever cope with doing that for every 3 Series on the roads, that would lie up machines and labour for years!!

Waiting to watch Watchdog now.

So from the quote mentioned earlier on, BMW say they meet all security standards etc. I'm definately no security expert but SURELY someone smashing a window, accessing a module to programme a new key with no intervention of the alarm counts as a serious flaw?? I'm gobsmacked if that meets security standards.

Wonder what this enhanced protection is? Software update or hardware change?

That's all they need - a bit of bad publicity to light a fire under them. They've known about this problem for a year and consistently denied it's a big problem and there is nothing to worry about - Watchdog get involved and suddenly they're offering free updates to all BMW owners affected!

Well played WD!
