Downpipe Brace Question

On my last E90 I went with the Active Autowerke catless downpipes because they were the only ones that I knew of that had the extra braces welded on. Are there any other downpipes available with the braces like the AA downpipes?

I believe those are the only ones with the braces. I have VRSF and don't have any rattling from them so the brace isn't really needed when done properly.

The brace is really not necessary but yea I think AA is the only one.

After over 4 years, hundreds of thousands of collective miles and more than a thousand sets sold we haven't had one issue related to a lack of a hanger

There's a reason all the most popular downpipes don't have that hanger, it's simply not required nor does it negatively affect performance or reliability.

I have xi pipes with the vrsf exhaust. they sound great on stock and even better on upgraded exhausts. nice and deep tone.

The OEM downpipes have a flex joint, so that is why they need the hanger as it would stress the flex joint too much if they were not supported. Without the flexjoint, there really is no reason for the support.

Your first point makes sense!
But wouldn't it also make sense for non-flexible pipes to be supported, since there would be less stress on the turbo outlet?

I think without a flex point in the downpipes a rigid mount that close to the turbo would be more likely to cause a stress issue. Remember the motor moves in relation to the body.

How much louder will catless DP make my car? For example AR catless for an Xi. Some people say there really isn't a difference until you punch it, then you hear the difference and then at idle you can't really tell.
