i still dont have the lights under the doors but dont need these. i also retrofitted the lights in the doorhandles. you can order the lightbulb and the wire for this. take of the doorhandle part, and inside you already have a socket where this lightbulb goes. all you have to take care about is the wiring and cutting the plastic doorhandle part.
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...15&hg=63&fg=30 to answer the question how much hassle was it, not so much and the wiring is connected with the window switch. so whenever that is illuminated, ambient light goes on too. if someone wants to make this i can post a DIY with the list of parts to rder. i think the price would be about $100. for the e90 guys it could be done as well but its a bit of a hastle because you need to cut the plastic strips. you need to order the front ones off the e92 and make them shorter by about 10cm. my friend and i will try that in his e90 and if we make it ill let you guys know! parts for ambient light on e92 - but be carefull when ordering because ive stated here the part numbers for the black ones. someone might need to order different color. 51419139641 - $30 51419139642 - $30 51439139837 - $26 51439139838 - $26 4x 63319122419 - $10 63316958347 - $7 63316958348 - $7 63316958349 -$11 63316958350 - $11 Last edited by nenadbogar; 07-18-2011 at 08:08 AM.. |

no 3 is the jack with the LED inside. perhaps that could be changed to a new brighter one or another color. this is the only light source for the whole strip

I have never seen this on an e92 on the uk!
I would love to give this a go and part numbers and a walk through would be useful... When taking off the door card, did you have to replace any clips that may have broken? Best, |

no i didnt. but you could order those upfront as well since they are really cheap. anyway taking off the door panel is a snap and you already have a step by step for that. installing the lights is something i could make for you. there are already predefined holes for this piece of plastic

Hah I checked my e92 today... AND I do have these ambient lights... WOW they are rubbish! I have never ever noticed them before... They are so dim they are pointless... Unless I amassing something, is there a way of turning them up on the idrive?
These would be awesome if they lit up as much as the image above or even half that... I barely even notice the reflection of the chrome door handle. Hopefully I'm just being silly about it? Anyone help me out? Could they be coded brighter? |

u use the left stalk on the left side of your steering wheel to make the interior lights and ambiet lighting brighter. the same stalk you use for making a left turn or right turn.
cant remember off the top of my head but you either press the little button on the left side of the stalk >...... then turn up the brightness it will be better if i take pics lol, ill be heading out in a hour or 2, ill post some pics .

Found it. Thanks a lot guys...
I turned it all the way up, but as others have said... It is still a little dark... Can not even see it on the black on black interior. Especially when i am driving around lit up streets, which i am most of the time... I think i will try and look at way of improving the brightness, but i am worried that anything figured out will result in the lights being too bright. Do you think they could be coded to be a little brighter? I am going to ask in the coding section. Considering people can up the voltage to their angel eyes and make bulbs brighter etc... maybe there is a possibility. |

I may have a play with these... I remember back in the day when i really didn't like these because they were not bright enough.
So maybe these may be the ideal choice as they are like tiny mini spot lights which really do not illuminate tremendously... (From what i remember)... They are cheap and reliable, and last a very long time... You could wire them into the original wiring possibly and stick them under the current Ambient light housings (if they are not too wide). Maybe they could be adjusted by the Stalk control too? You could even cut these up and place them in the cubby hole pockets in the doors, and other places. What do you all think? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Car-St...#ht_1019wt_952 do you think they could be a close orange match to the stock Bimmer interior lighting? |
