Seal and THEN wax?
Hey guys
Seeing some posts and videos claiming you can put wax on top of a sealant. Wouldn't that just rub the sealant off? Example: So you would: wash clay wash sealant let sealant sit. < for how long?? wax buff off wax No? |

most new sealants adhere to the paint very quickly and well so cure times are not that long. and the thinner the coat the better for sealants!

i don't think he's talking about the opticoat type sealants. i believe he's asking about polymer sealants. think about what you asked. if a sealant could be rubbed off that easily, then what good is the sealant? polymer sealants chemically bond to the clear coat. you most certainly can add wax on top of a sealant.

The sealant needs to set before waxing. Some sealants are ready to be waxed soon after, others like Blackfire wet diamond need to sit for a period of time. Usually the product will tell you. I normally wait 12-24hrs before applying wax on top if I do it depending on the time frame for the detail

I've seen some of the newer sealants specifically prohibit waxing on top. For most polymer sealants I don't think they mention it and it's fine. I would say to follow the cure time directed then be okay with waxing - I used Menzerna Powerlock, gave it 24 hours then waxed and I've done several coats since (after most washes).

OP look into sonax polymer net shield or menzerna powerlock. I've had good results with chemical guys jet seal but some of the higher level weekend detailers on here said the jet seal is a no-no lol.
