What exactly do bubbles on RFTs look like?

For some reason I happened to look at my rims today and saw some black splotches on them. When I took a closer look at the tires, the two on my driver's side had what look like a small cut in them with some brownish fibers visible inside. I hit some really bad potholes the last 2 weeks in NYC so I figure it must be from that. So far my TPMS has not gone off.

They look like outward protrusions...like lumps in the tire, or bubbles. You would know if you had bubbles.

Is it just Bridgestones that bubble or do they all bubble? Sorry about all the questions. I never expected to have something like this happen to me so I didn't do any research.

TIA

You need to replace the tire. It may survive for a while but it may also blow-out while driving at high speed, why risk it? The fact is that the tire structure is compromised.

Someone posted pics of a bubbled-tire from the inside, if you search you'll see what the real damage looks like. I'd say replace it as soon as you get your insurance info. I've replaced 3 Bridgestones in 3 separate incidents in 2 years, all covered by insurance (Paragon). GL

this is what happens on the inside of a bubbled tire:

do you really want to find out what will happen when that tear expands while driving?

I bought Michelin Pilot Sport 2, top of the line run flats for $1,502 out the door at Costco. You have to order them at the tire center, and they arrive a few days later for installation.

The Michelin's are better tires.

BTW, after replacing 2 Bridgestones due to bubbles, I decided that I wasn't gonna do it anymore. (KEY POINT) The tires from Costco include hazard insurance ... bada-bing. Sold!

I took some pictures of the tires.

I spoke with my salesguy at the dealer and he says don't worry, they are covered so I'm going to bring them in.

You sliced through at least one of the tire layers...Are you losing air?

How are they covered if you hit a pothole? Do you have the wheel/tire insurance?

You might also have some rim damage too.

I dented an E46 sport rim without knowing it. One day on the way to work my tire blew. When I changed the tire I saw the dent which was on the inside of the wheel.

The TMPS sensor hasn't gone off yet so I don't think I've lost air.

Fortunately, I bought tire/rim insurance and my salesperson said to bring the car in and they will replace the tire.
