I'm at 74k I wonder if they will replace my turbos even if I dont have that much rattle! It's probably worth a shot dont you think? Or do the turbos have to fail before they will replace them?

I think as long as you can hear the rattle (as long as its not considered normal), they'll replace them.

I had the wastegate issues and got new turbos, but the new turbos were even louder. Eventually i found a good indy performance shop that were able to fix the wastegate rattle for me. TyrolSport in NY

A slight rattle noise is considered normal operation of the mechanical wastegate valve and is not a failure of the part. No repair should be attempted for this type of rattling complaint. If the noise is described as a clanking noise occurring up to six or seven times in a row during adeceleration from approximately 3,500 RPM, or during a heavy application of the accelerator without a drive gear being engaged, then continue with the procedures described in this document. |

I was going there for years to have work done when I had my built GTI. Mike is a standup guy and knows his sh!t. I'd sooner have them do work before any dealer in the area (out of warranty of course).

I have a slight rattle. My car is out of warranty, and last time I wanted to bring it in for a recall item, I was told I would have to pay $150 if they deemed everything ok. I hope my rattle gets a little worse so I can go in because I don't want to pay that fee if they refuse to fix it.

I still wouldn't skimp on the extended warranty/ There are quite a bit more that fall apart on these cars. I had a water pump failure, 1 visit I had all the following replaced (Gasket ring, collar Screw, bearing ledge, intake Inlet camshaft, gasket ring, decoupling element), transmission issues, ecu replacement.. and much much more!

Before, what was considered "normal" was purely subjective. Just pointing out that there is now criteria to determine what is normal and what isn't.
