5th EGR Cooler cracked!!! Why???

Hi guys,

I have a 2006 335D which keeps blowing the EGR cooler and causing coolant to leak. Ive had to change it 5 times in the past year which is getting expensive now and just thinking of getting rid of the car although i love it when its working. symptoms i get are loss of power, coolant leak and exhaust smell inside the car. the car is not remapped and i know about the egr delete but would like to keep the car standard. can anyone shed some light on why this keeps happening and what i can do to prevent it

Are you following proper torquing procedure if there is any?Saying because on X5 with M57 engine (US model) one has to follow proper procedure to align and torque otherwise it would crack again.

i wasn't aware of any torquing procedure so this could be the cause. could you elaborate please as im about to fit another one over the weekend

Appreciate your help mate. Not really sure How to measure torque nM when using a ratchet though

No problem..I think its more important to follow the sequence than torque.In other words egr cooler should be aligned properly before tightening the bolts.

Please follow the sequence of tightening the bolts which is explained in the end of the document.its very important to follow it.
