Has this car got the newer sat nav??

This is the interior of an October 09 registered E92. The rear lights look pre-LCI but the Sat Nav looks intriguingly like the LCI system (i.e. hard disc version).

Can anyone tell from this interior shot of the screen and idrive controller??

Looks like the Hard Drive version to me as it has the additional buttons surrounding the controller.

Oct'09 would be pre-LCI (March '10), but the HDD Nav was around as my Dec'09 135i had it.

Rev counter looks a little off though... you're not looking at diseasels are you?

Roger, the car I just sold was a Oct 08 build car (58 plate),and that had the newer Sat nav.
The Idrive knob (you could have used the word ) also looks like the newer controller

An October 09 car will have the newer system.

So the nav was upgraded before LCI was introduced then??

If this is the case, what the frig did LCI introduce, different rear lights and a lower quality interior (cheap sun-visors, etc).

I'm not sure, but I'd double check. I may misremember, but I have a feeling (when I was looking a few years back on 5ers) that I worked out that they starting fitting the new controller (with extra buttons) also with the original DVD (not HDD) navigation system. To be sure I think I had to check the build of each car.

New CIC HD Nav must have been before LCI because my pre LCI Jan 09 car has it.

I too seem to recall something about the controller not necessarily being the telltale sign. Will check with the dealer but think this one is a smidge over-budget. And Ian, yes, this is a dirty D

Roger, the hard drive version came out before the facelift coupe. I think the saloon LCI got the hard drive version but since it was nearly a year before the LCI came out on the E92, the E92 was getting the same sat nav.

Your target car does not have rear led lights but it also has some things that an LCI car does not.

Rear cupholders and cargo nets on the back of the front seats.
Sound insulation under the bonnet.
The cooler compartment under the centre armrest.
Matching sun visors.

Little things maybe, but they make a difference.

Surely its quite simple to tell the difference between HDD sat nav and not. If you have 2 DVD slots in your dash, you have the DVD version(CCC). If only one, you have the HDD (CIC).

Over budget?
Just as well Roger, but sorry, that trim looks like it belongs in a gentlemans smoking club from the late 1800's,or perhaps you like leather buttoned Chesterfields,Port & Montecristo's

On a serious note what is your budget, and what are you looking for?

*Apologies to anyone who's got that trim.

The interior trim isn't my choice but can easily be replaced or wrapped.

I've been on the prowl for an E92 330d, manual, for about a year but are like hens teeth with decent spec. Opened the search to now include 325d's and even 123d's (both remapped). Really like the Scirocco in the new refreshed 'R Line' guise but the Diesel engine is pretty uninspiring and the proper 'R' cooking version won't save me much cash. Higher miles predicted next year hence the thought process.

The budget is as low as possible otherwise I might as well keep the Zed as it costs me so little on finance. The trade-in on the Zed is so poor Im seeing if any desperate dealers are willing to help bridge the gap with a stonking deal.

that appears to be a very good point! so looks like thats a hdd car.

(ps i think the really dark wood trims are by far the best options, i think the one pictured looks darker in real life....)

I like the wood trim on that car.
Looks like you have CIC navigation but a pre-LCI car which means if you want the newer LCI features that rely on the com box (stuff like facebook integration and a few other things) you either have to bodge-fit the com box retrofit or live without it.

My car is from the same era. It's pre-LCI but with CIC navigation. Having seen the LCI lights and front bumper after parking next to one yesterday, I'm not fussed about mine being LCI or not!

Sounds like the perfect combination of pre-LCI quality and the newer Sat Nav. The look differences are very minor plus could update the lights it I really wanted (but doubt I ever would). The front lights gained a 'brow' also didn't they. I guess the engines were cleaned up a little though, wasn't there quite a makeover on the 330d, but an LCI 330d is way out of my budget coupled with a crap trade-in. Could always try to sell privately in the New Year is not Christmas shopping comes off.

I meant to say in my original post that the trim might not look all that bad in the flesh. Seem to recall and X3 I nearly bought a few years back had it and it was really dark so not offensive.

There is a chance Roger, that, like the newer nav, the newer 330 engine was fitted to the E92 before the LCI issue.

I think this does have the updated Lci engine as the specs are 49.6mpg combined with just 153 co2

You can't tell which sat nav it is by looking at it.

The professional version has a 8.8" screen and a HDD. The HDD stores the maps, and may also be used to store music, contacts, etc. The single slot is a DVD drive, and plays both DVDs and CDs.

The business version has the same screen BUT only uses 6.5" of it, ie there is a 1" blank strip down either side when in use. There is no HDD. Maps are stored on internal memory (eprom I guess); you can't store music etc. The single slot is a CD drive, not a DVD.

They use the same controller.

This is Professional. The spec lists 'Navigation-system Professional' so will use the bigger screen. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't the shitty system in my old 06 plate E90 330d - I hated that system.

To be fair the LCI also has new much more aggressive front bumper and nicer front lights with the ultra bright drl's (angels)

That interior in the pic is heinous but you can always wrap it...
