Fuel-it Bluetooth Eca Review- E89 Z4

Hey guys,

I plan on going e60 blend with Buraq this Spring, and to help make sure my fuel was right wanted to install an ECA. Here's a little right up and some pictures that I hope will help you guys out.

I researched various ethanol content analyzers, ECA and originally decided to go with Zeitronix ECA gauge and sensor combo. My only hesitation was having to add a gauge some where in the cabin. Personally i prefer a stealth/ stock look and dreaded having an exposed gauge.

I was pleasantly surprised when I looked into Fuel-it systems and stumbled on a bluetooth option that works with smart phones. Problem solved!

Steve was great to work with, answering my many questions and working with my mechanic. I was a bit hesitant because the e89 Z4's are slightly different N54 setup compared to 1/3 series. There is no such thing as plug and play.

Feeling confident after discussing with Steve and my mechanic I pulled the trigger on sensor, bluetooth module, and feed lines.

Over all the kit looks good. The Fuel-it bluetooth module looks like a quality unit. As for the sensor its your typical production oem sensor.

The install…
As I mentioned above, there is not such this as plug and play with the e89. After we took out the exhaust, braces, and trim we roughly mocked up the lines and sensor.

This is is when we ran into a hiccup. The lines came in with both female push locks, but my oem was male connection at the pump. This is where my mechanic and I looked at each other like, "fuck why is nothing easy for this damn car." Luckily he has the tools and know-how to make fuel lines. He ended up making double male connection and it worked like a charm.

After we got through the connection hurdle things were pretty smooth sailing. Just zip tying the lines, installing sensor, and wiring.

Overall I would say if we didn't have the connection issue, it was a pretty simple, but tedious job. Removing everything to get access was the most time consuming, tedious part of it.

How does it work… GREAT! Once I downloaded the app it worked right away. Just click on connect and you'll see fuel info right away.

Would I recommend…ABSOLUTELY!! I think this is a no brainer for anyone running an ethanol blend. Simply put you can not trust what's in the pump. For reference another car running the same sensor found that the e85 pump around the corner was only e60.

Special thanks to Steve and Fuel-it for the great customer service, and to my mechanic Bill @ BillMar Auto in Farmingdale.

Here is some pics for you guys.

jts is going for e60. How absolute does the amount have to be? Is there a range, plus and minus, where the engine will run safely? Are we better off with a slightly lower, or higher, percentage?

Yes there is a range. My E60 maps are ranged for anything between E60-E70. Nothing less or higher.

I'm gonna need one. I ran the GM sensor in my DSM and had it wired to DSMLink to automatically adjust my global fuel settings based on ethanol content. It was legit.
