Official - 991 GT3

http://www.worldcarfans.com/11303045...ally-unleashed

Quote:
Porsche has officially unveiled the 911 GT3.

Described as an impressive leap forward, the GT3 closely resembles the standard 911 but is distinguished by an aggressive front fascia with spoilers and optional LED headlights. Moving further back, there's widened rear fenders, extended side skirts and a fixed rear wing. Last but not least, the car has been equipped with a new rear bumper, a center-mounted dual exhaust system and 20-inch forged alloy wheels with central locking hubs.

The interior carries over but adopts leather / Alcantara seats, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and red contrast stitching.

Power comes from a 3.8-liter six-cylinder boxer engine that features variable valve timing, direct injection, titanium connecting rods and forged pistons. It enables the engine to produce 475 HP (349 kW) and 324 lb-ft (438 Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission which sends power to the rear wheels via a locking differential. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 3.5 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 315 km/h (195 mph). To put things into prospective, Porsche says the model can lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in less than seven minutes and thirty seconds.

On the handling front, the GT3 will become the first Porsche to offer an active rear wheel steering system. Designed to deliver unparalleled driving dynamics, the system steers the rear wheels in the same or opposite direction of the front wheels for improved agility.

The Porsche 911 GT3 will go on sale in Germany this August and pricing starts at €137,303 (including VAT and national specifications).

This one makes me very sad:

The interior picture is an epic fail for me. I can't believe they are fitting an automatic into a GT model Porsche

WOW!

I'm loving this car already.

So, with this debut, that means the Turbo should be revealed within the next 6-8 months, right? Or will we have to wait another year?

The Turbo S went all PDK... I really hope it wasn't a sign of things to come.

What's wrong is that the GT models no longer being exclusively manual is another sign of the watering down of the model and brand. It's not as special anymore, I don't care how well it performs. Even if it laps the 'Ring under 6 minutes I'll still prefer a 997.2.

You'll most likely see the RS with a roll bar (full cage is for the GT3 Cup).

PDK is great, but no manual is a sad thing. I've previously read that it was PDK for 2013 only so there's still hope.

And the roll bar isn't legal in the U.S. It can be added on after, but wouldn't want it on a street car personally though that's another discussion.

Yeah, next thing you know, they'll have one in an F1 car
Word is PDK only, no manual.

On one hand, I'm very excited about this 991. I bet the performance figures will be epic.

On the other, no manual transmission (or even the OPTION to fit PDK) is a huge, HUGE letdown. This is what made the GT line so appealing - it was a car for the enthusiast, only. If you can't operate a stick, you can't get to experience what is a phenomenal vehicle. Now, they are introducing PDK, so that even your average suburban soccer mom can spin around in one.

I'm exaggerating quite a bit, but you get my point, or so I hope.
