Wow that's beautiful. Nice job op. Some times I wish my car didn't have navigation system.

Got to give it to you on creativity .
Can you show a picture with the glovebox open was that the intended place for it. How did you figure the idrive controller would work with the head unit and is the display screen a Joying . The link to there website doesn't seem to work. |

Any instructions/code/videos?
I'm very interested in doing something similar myself with an existing iDrive system. I've seen most of the replacement systems are simply acting like a MiTM of the LVDS connection to the display and they use a piggyback harness to get audio going through the car. The problem is that they all use Android 4.4.4 and I'd really love a system I can upgrade myself and have full control with an Arduino like you are using. |

Oh, I just noticed you don't have factory iDrive. I was thinking you had written software for a CANBUS shield to hijack the controls which is what I'm interested in.

I'm seriously interested. I already bought the CIC iDrive controller. But my only difference is I want the controller to work as a bluetooth not wired.
If you can make it working as bluetooth for the CIC controller; please let me know. I have already sent you 2 messages in this regard and I haven't received a reply yet. I want to finish this 5 year old project of mine Last edited by gamesfrager; 04-26-2018 at 05:25 PM.. |

I am also interested in this USB device for my carpc project. I've been looking for a controller and I keep coming back to the iDrive touch interface as the most well done. The issue has always been how to interface to my pc.
I'll PM as soon as my account is fully activated. |

Can't wait to hear your feedback. I'm most curious how programmable it is. i.e. if one can set a specific character or media key to a button or joystick direction. The fact that the OP claims the touchpad can be used as a USB mouse is just bonus IMO.

I think if iPhones accept bluetooth remotes, then in theory it should work. I'm still waiting for the controller board to arrive from Ukraine (it's been a month since it left Ukraine!)

I received the board yesterday. Need to get some pin headers/connectors and will need the guy to actually guide me through the setup.
Hopefully by next week I'll have an update and make a full post about it. |
