OT: Newbie Question about OEM 313

Is this the one?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-BMW-3...#ht_554wt_1397

Looks genuine but unsure.

Those 313s are replicas as i just won a auction from the same person a couple days ago same wheels they were bought from motorsports bm in melbourne,
I paid $800 for the set, so i see what they are like compared to OEM.

Only way to tell Erik would be to ask the seller of those wheels to take some photos of the inside of the wheel that way you can check whether it has the BMW wheel manufacturer and stamp from the factory. These are the sort of issues you face when buying wheels online from tyre places. Tempting price though!

I to saw those wheels for sale, they do look nice and are one of my favorite BMW factory wheels but i worry about strength as they are a light weight cast wheel and the spokes are very thin. There is no way you would mount semi slicks and use them on the track.
Fine for the street and they are cheap, BUT

FYI the genuine 313's have a bmw cast mark on the hub and are made in italy (I cant remember the manufacturer them but it wasn't BBS it starts with an M by memory.....- I will check this tonight when I have my rims off)

Also I believe the 19" 313's are forged items, whereas the rep 313's would be cast wheels. Generally what this means is that the crystal structure of the rims are larger in a cast wheel which results in a weaker microstructure, whereas the forged microstructure has a crystal structure which is a lot finer which resists fatigue & impacts.

This isn't info I have regurgitated from the net, I actually work as a metallurgist for a co who manufacturers forged wheels (alas for trains not motor cars) and cheaper cast wheels is becoming more prevalent in our market as the cheaper purchase price lures customers but in the long run it ends up costing them more as they have to change them more often and failure rates are also higher.

Hmm unfortunately that link doesn't prove they aren't forged?

Having said that just because a wheel is cast doesn't mean its crap but there is certain manufacturing techniques to improve strength and generally the cheaper rims don't have this technology and techniques applied to them.

Pics of the hub of my 313's with bmw identification:

The 313Ms are a nice looking wheel... but every mofo seems to have them now, which is a bit disappointing - so for me lose their appeal.

The best 5 star BMW wheels at the moment in my opinion are these bad boys...

Garage List
The strength of the metal and the way they are heat treated makes a huge difference. I would be a bit concerned with eBay wheels.
I thought that most BMW wheels made in Italy are by crommadora, who have been making alloys for years. Unfortunately the also made a batch of 225's that were prone to crack.
There is a 18" BMW performance wheel that's forged IIR and it is nearly $4k

Hmm damn nice, but they are very M6'ish which has been played to death imo!

They are 2012 M5 wheels replica so they fit most bmws 8.5 and 9.5
Modbagains.com has them and many others
In a search there has been a few OEM 313 wheels have cracked aswell.
Yes forged wheels start at around $4000 and goes sky high a lot of money for a set of wheels.

Yes i love my 225m wheels as well and i love the 313s i got but need the polished section redone again.
I was thinking of getting the 225s done in Hyper Black but at a cost of $280 a wheel.
313s or 225s in Hyper Black or normal silver.

OEM 313s look sexy. Particulary if you have some braking hardware to show off. Not so much with rusted hubs and calipers etc.

Aftermarket 313s look aftermarket. Same with the 230s - v easy to tell.
