Macbook pro retina

Hi guys, I've just sold my 27" imac as I needed something more portable and to free up space too. Not sure what to buy? Pre retina 13? Air?

Got a budget of £1300

Main uses - browsing, downloading music, films and I use apperture quite a bit for photo editing.

I have been hearing a theres a few issues with the new retinas.

Would appreciate your help

Yes there are. I have one now and with the dual video cars it can cause screen delay and glitchy images when browsing especially noticeable using the forum. Long wake up time from sleep (for a computer), and some random issues I'd never had with my MBP from 2008.

On the plus the 15'' is awesomely light, and quite, good battery and the screen is awesome.

But for me I'd rather have a brand new 08 version then this one so not worth the 4k I paid, and I won't be getting another one if this one dies.

I prefer the Macbook Airs myself, although getting tempted to try a 13 retina.

But a 13" Air with retina display I am holding out for.

My Air is a 2010 and still going strong, 4gb ram and 256gb ssd and it does every thing I need. But said my daughther can have it when it gets to 3 years old and I will update, but not sure if I need to yet.

I converted to Mac just over a year ago and got a 13" pro, 750gb. It's brilliant and I don't find the screen size small at all only when on photoshop but for everything else I couldn't recommend it more. Still takes the same 30secs to boot up and 3secs to shutdown just as it did when I bought it

In everyday use is the 13" retina much better than the standard 13" MacBook Pro?

I got a 13inch retina, had a 15inmbp before but trust me the 13inch is way more better day to day use. So convenient, its a proper laptop.

Wake from sleep delay is because the ram is writing to the hard disk after its been asleep for a certain amount of time, and when you lift the lid it takes awhile to write it back. This is the save battery power apparently.

You can change that in Terminal and it stops the delay...

I'm sure your love it.....I'm still using my 2008 MacBookPro, I would love any excuse to upgrade to the latest model but the thing just refuses break (despite me putting a nice dent in the lid recently) or slow down..Running Safari, Word, Excel, Acrobat, iTunes and SPSS via Windows XP in Parrellels all at the same time and no slow down at all

Same here, my 2010 Air is still going strong.

Never feels slow.

The only area I would notice a difference is converting my audio stuff from ableton to AIFF or WAV, sometimes it is a 2gb file that needs converting and it take maybe a minute, with a new one it may be down to 40 seconds or so?
But is it worth it? Not really.

I have a

iMac 27" Mid 2011
3.4 GHz Core i7
16GB RAM
Radeon 6970M 1GB
256 GB SSD

So use to the speed and big screen but needed something portable cause I'm travelling a lot. So I just brought a

MacBook Pro Retina 13" Early 2013
2.6 GHz Core i5
8 GB RAM
Intel 675MB Graphics
256 GB SSD

for £1,449.00. I went in to get a Macbook air 13" but wondered around and saw that it was only like £200 or something more expensive for double ram, double SSD size and the retina display. So no brainer really Loving it. I use it for Photoshop and Final Cut Pro X which is fine being portable and all.
