Mass dealer service with mods?
hey guys i recenlty got a 2011 335i i posted a link with pictures in the photo section heres the link.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=548382 I was wondering if any of the dealerships bother you when you take your car in for service when you have performance mods. Im thinking of getting dp's and intake and im kinda worried about being bothered at the dealer. Will they even know that i have after market downpipes on the car. The cars brand new i have 400 miles on it so far.

They will probably notice the DP's. When I had my 335 they would always note "aftermarket suspension" on the work orders. Car had coilovers. They never said anything but it was always noted.

All depends on your dealership. Some will excuse intakes but others will void your warranty because of your downpipes. (I think downpipes even throw a CEL.) Your parts will not be "missed" or "overlooked" by the dealerships. They will be noted and if ever your turbo fries they may blame it on your down pipes.
Other dealerships like where I bought my WRX did warranty work knowing I had a custom tune. My advice is to feel your dealership out. I know my SA has a tuned 335i so I need to talk to him a bit before I order my Accessport. Also... Use the search engine.

Personally I would wait a bit until the engine breaks in before doing any performance related mods, that's just me though.
Overall, it completely depends on your dealer. I take mine to Wagner in Shrewsbury for service and they love my car, they compliment me every time I'm in and want to see it. Never had an issue at all. |

Herb Chambers over at Sudbury never gave me any issues on the mods. The only thing to consider is that they can "legally" void all the warranties in the car if you remove emission devices aka cats. Even things that are not directly associated with the mod itself can be voided at that point. Do some research on-line over the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act under Section 2302 and know your rights!
I went in the other day to get my headlight which was physically broken which makes it "out of warranty" (one of the flaps broke on the back by someone other than me) and they still managed to get BMW to goodwill the thing and I had to pay very little for a part that would have cost me over 1,500. See Adam Silva if issues do come up. Great guy |

Don't do it, you car is already sahhweet! Do like OEM performance mods through the dealer if any.. But that's all my opinion and if anything I'd say wait like Massbimmer!

As MassBimmer said, I'd recommend waiting as well. Your engine needs time to break-in and personally, I like to drive the car for what it is for a good amount of miles (~20K) before I make improvements to the cars power and performance.

If I were to offer my 2cents on the mods question, I would certainly wait until well after break in miles for any mods. Why not enjoy the car as is for a while, then ramp it up over time? These things haul ass right out of the packaging. Finally, because of the reliability issues with these cars I'd think twice about anything you can't remove and return to stock while you wait on the side of the road for BMW assist. I have the BMW stage 1 tune and although it's overpriced I think it's a nice addition (and warrantied). Good luck! |

This is 100% correct. As for waiting on mods yes and no. Depends what they are. You will be fine with new downpipes if that is all you were looking to do so far. Realistically you can do any mods you want and be fine at this point, but I don't think its a bad idea to slap some downpipes on. I would if I just got a 335 |
