Dynavin D99 questions....please halp.
OK, this thing is a riot. I've put several aftermarket Nav units in my previous vehicles and this one is by far the most "odd". I say odd because I'm sure I just don't understand it yet. I've searched plenty but I can't find the answers I need so some help from those that know would be much appreciated. 1. Auto DIM or Night/sunset mode? All my kenwoods kicked on a dark screen version at night. Does this exist or does when it get dark outside this thing just going to blind you unless you dig through the menu? I read about a hard button dim trim trick but the real answer didn't come up. 2..SOS error on the dash? How do I get that resolved. Can't be running around with an error code just because of the radio. 3..what offline APP should I get for the US to run for basic Nav/Gps map display when driving around town? #2..Is there a way to have this map screen come on when the car starts and not have to navigate through 4 screens to get it? 4..The volume difference between radio and andriod scared her when it popped, how do I remedy this? I understand the reason but would like to know how to soften that. I understand this D99 is a APP based Andriod unit and it has MUCH options to play with but I'm gonna need a simple set-up for her to drive with daily. Thank You.. |

2: BMW assist is integrated with the stock stereo, take out the stereo and you will get an error. This is not specific to the dynavin, any stereo swap will cause this. Some people relocate the stock head unit to the trunk to avoid the SOS error. 3: There are tons of options but copilot seems to be popular. Just put the app on your android home screen, so when the unit starts up, press the nav button on the head unit, then press the app on the touchscreen. No way to automatically do it, but thats 2 "presses" and you are in business. 4: There are volume buttons in the status bar, turn the android volume down to about 2/3 and it should be close to the other sources in volume. Different apps may have their own volume controls so adjust as needed to get them the same. Also, make sure you have the "navi sound" setting in the radio settings menu set correctly so that the android audio is routed through the volume knob and adjusts the same as the radio etc.... |

You can program out the SOS error.
You have to realize that the BMW radio or idrive unit acts a server or router
for a bunch of optional sub modules through several different buses. Options such as Bluetooth , Sos , PDC and ipod hang of the radio. So when you take out the radio your leaving a bunch of hanging connections to these modules that expect to be connected. And the one that is real kicker is the BMW diagnostic computer that BMW uses will not run if it does not see the original configuration of the car when it trys to do diags. This also means you can't do software updates to the car or write new values to components that are replaced at least with the standard setup that they have at dealerships. To avoid these problems people mount the original radio in the trunk or somewhere else in the car. At the very least do not throw the original Head Unit away in case you have remount it to get a problem solved. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin To code out the SOS error Requires a coding setup see the coding subforum http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=805677 http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=368 From the comments and feedback others have given the dynavin is not that good of a unit. But it does look like it belongs in the Dash. Also FYI BMW stereo types http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352586 http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1266451970 http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1260829447 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=343673 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138949 http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1209780605 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641323 http://bmwcoders.com/forum/3-er-8/bm...1-e92-e93-291/ http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1209780865 http://www.bawarec.ru/manuals/3er/e9...3er-e90-12.pdf http://www.musicarnw.com/page-2/ http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...4&d=1278871872 Last edited by ctuna; 10-17-2013 at 07:06 PM.. |

Thank you, I found your FAQ about this unit and those helped a lot. I have figured out #1 and #2 will be a choice. Not sure about putting a headunit in the trunk that is already small. Not to mention the wiring...not sure I even want to look into what's involved. On 3, I chose to get Sygic. How long is this going to take to load in the car, I'll be using my home PC router for wifi. I'm assuming it's just like the S4 I have and go in and put the App for Sygic and the activation code. Just curious how long this might take and if the car should be running. On 4, can you go a little more into that. |

no idea how long downloading any given map will take, depends on the map, depends on your connection speed.
For #4, just play an audio file and look at the status bar, there are volume icons, touch them, it will display the current android volume Adjust as needed. Turn the volume knob, does it change the volume? If not, change the navisound setting in the radio settings menu. You should understand up front that having an android unit puts a lot of responsibility on the user for getting everything up and running and set up the way YOU want. Trial and error, and tinkering are what those units are all about. |

yep, android units are for techies...sounds like you found my FAQ, as you saw its question #1...
If you just want a stereo GPS system with all goodies, you should get a winCE unit, WAY more intuitive..... |

There really is nothing intuitive about this unit. It's a "you better understand android" type meal added in with a "just try and touch the screen properly" desert. The screen sensitivity is off the charts ridiculous. Using the stylus or your fingernail back helps but you're still going to have to do a rain dance to scroll a menu screen. I hope there is a way to tone that down. where is the android volume? I loaded that Sygic Nav and that was a patience in details thing. Loaded fine with the app loaded on the D99 but trying to put google play on it was a joke. I got it loaded but have no idea where it went. I finally used the app loader ad it went right in. However, that Sygic has some defaults that are down right dangerous. The speed notification alarm is of a gun shot decibel. I'm fairly certain it blew all the speakers in the car. |
