Performance Exhaust - too loud?

I'm curious if anyone finds the performance exhaust too loud, especially after the break in period?

I'm thinking about purchasing for my e92 328i (I can't seem to find a lot of naturally aspirated 6's with this to compare), but am also getting a bit too old for a rice rocket sound, or loudness all the time during highway driving. Part of the reason I got this car is because it's so refined and quiet at speed, but I hate how quiet it is under full load.

A dilemma I'm hoping the PE will solve...anyone provide feedback on their experience?

Sounds like the PE would be perfect for you. There is little to no drone at highway speeds. Very quiet in the cabin under 3k rpm due to BMW's extensive sound insulation. Open it up and it sounds like what every BMW inline 6 should sound like!

PE was the best thing I ever did to my car, worth every cent. It can have a little rasp when its cold but once all the pipes warm up it sings nicely and all that goes away. Tunnels are fun, cement sides of on ramps are fun too. Under 3k windows up you dont even know anything is there. With the windows down in DS is a blast esp when you get the gargle as it downshifts

Hi, new here, have had the PE on my E90 for a year now and the sound is anything but rice. Keep the revs below 3 grand and nobody'll notice. Wrap it up past five and it's perfect, imo anyway. You'll like it I suspect.

Not too loud at all. After installing the PE, I even deleted the secondary cats. Now it's LOUD!! Just the way I like it. E90 328i LCI.

From your description, you should def get it. It is exactly what you are looking for. These cars are quiet unless you want them to scream and that usually occurs past 3k.

Pair it up with an intake too and you'll be set

Muffler delete in sport mode is the way a BMW should sound. Sadly, most can't live with it day to day.

I'm getting my PE delivered and I can't wait to install it! I'm contemplating 2nd cat deletes... how much of a difference is it under 3k rpm? Do you feel any difference in performance as well? Saw that you were in socal; I'm worried about smog tests haha I'd love to hear your comments! Thanks!

Note that I also have the aFe intake installed, tune. With just the PE installed, when cruising along you can barely hear the exhaust (driving with windows up of course). If I punch it then the exhaust comes alive. Now that I have the 2nd cat deleted with pipes, I can hear a little hum when cruising, not a unpleasant drone. I had my friend drive it by when i'm outside, now it has a little back fire from the exhaust, and it sounds sweet. I'll try to upload a sound clip.

Well mine is a '10, I figured that I wont have to do smog for another 2-4 years. So, I went ahead and took it off, if anything I can weld the cats back in.

Just got mine installed today and it sounds awesome....definitely not too loud.

It did sound a lot louder right when I drove off from installation but a few miles on it and it sounds perfect...

I can see how it is too quiet for some people. It is really silent at low rpm and at highway speed (70+) in 5th or 6th you can't hear it at all.

But when you stomp on it the sound is awesome. Videos don't do it justice imo.

I've had mine on for several months now. It's louder now than when I got it, but it's still on the quieter side of after market exhausts.

The major change is that you'll actually be able to hear the exhaust. It sounds great BTW. Stock is near silent. There's a nice pop when decelerating from higher rpm. You really need to roll your window down to appreciate the sound though.

Me too, I don't know anyone who has PE in my area to compare my eisenmann. Unless you have the old race eisenmann mufflers, it won't be as loud. New eisenmann mufflers are quieted down.

My 2nd exhaust set up with custom midpipes and magnaflow muffler was the loudest than all set ups I've had, cabin vibration and drone. It was cool for 2 weeks.

Get it! I love my PE. Perfect sound to match the car in my opinion. The classic 6 sound with a little burble on overrun. It's great to hear the exhaust for downshifts and rev matching too. I've never once considered it too loud or embarrassing in public situations.

It's on the expensive side for what it is (and no performance gain), but it really makes the car and you know fitment is perfect with zero drone.

Not loud enough... catless headers set it free though.

I wonder how your set up would sound like with my custom pipes. It's off the car now. I put back my eisenmann set up to be quieter.
