Enthusiast Package
This package is designed for the BMW or MINI enthusiast that works on their own car. It offers most of the great features of our professional kit, but will only work on up to 3 cars (managed by VIN).

* 1 Bavarian Technic Diagnostic cable that plugs into your computer's USB port at one end
* 1 Adapter Cable with a 3 car limit
Select the appropriate cable below.
* Installation instructions
* Future software updates
Found the answer, this is a huge limitation

It isn't a limitation at all unless you personally have more than three cars that you really need to use this on... you pay for a "personal" version that you use for your own cars (up to 3). Or you buy a more expensive one that works on many cars... makes perfect sense.

I see why they do it, but for 749 + a PC your in used GT1 territory. The beauty of this tool is it's 287 price tag, for 749.00 it enters into an area where there are a few other options. It is what it is, and if they want to engineer a limitation into the product they can, it's still going to sell well.

I agree. The 287.00 price tag is a sweet price point for the average bmw owner. Its a steal at that price. Most will not need the pro-tool functionality.

Got mine today - only had about 10 mins to play. No engine codes (10k miles with Procede V3), a few random codes like radio, stability control, lights - none of which were active. I'm guessing maybe from disconnecting the battery as I did get some control messages, but no CELs.

BTW - only datalogged in my garage with 3-4 parameters to test it out, but it worked fine on my PIII 700mHz laptop.

Well if they only allow the Professional version to conduct ECU flash updating, that would then suck and miss a potentially huge target market. I'm ok with the VIN restriction, hell make it one car if I get all the features for Coding/Commands to flash the ECU when they come out with that feature in the future.

FYI, the regular Enthusiast version should be able to support ECU reflashing.

I would expect it to do some sort of verification of the VIN as well to protect the tuner.

Yep! The boys at Durametric/BT will have the actual reading/writing process sorted out pretty quickly. After that, the challenge will be map development. And it's not going to be as easy as many have come to expect from the Suby/Evo world. It will take some time to get quality maps instead of carbon copies of existing tunes (dinan, ess, etc,.)

Has anyone used this on a MSD81? I know it supports it, but I would feel better if someone could confirm that they were able to clear a code. (tuner manipulation code in particular)

Shiv, does it mean that you'll be making reflash maps and RevII that all of us bought eventually will become unnecessary?

Not at all. The Rev.II will do things that a reflash will never be able to do. Max performance being just one of them.
