Right bulbs?

Hey guys, I'm a little confused.

I'm looking to upgrade the bulbs that light my rings, but have been fed confusing info so far. Attached is a picture of the current bulb that's already in there, it connects using the white plastic clip.

I'm looking at getting these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321253464692...witem=&vxp=mtr

Which are supposedly compatible with the vehicle, plug and play. But studying the wiring harnesses they include, it looks like they replace a standard blub and not this funky thing that I have a picture of. Am I just not seeing it correctly or am I looking at the wrong bulb?

Does anybody know, is there a way to test Lux v5 without installing them? I am buying a used set and curious if I can test them on a battery? I wont be able to test them in the proper location until later that night, which would be a little too late. Thank you

I would think you can. But they wouldn't be as bright as installed since when running the voltage is somewhere between 13-14 volts instead of 12v.

But maybe someone can chime in if the amperage is reduced by the point the power gets to the lights and the straight battery is too much.

you can hook them up to a 12v power source actually. The driver we are using will control the output of it, so as long as the voltage is within range then it doesn't matter.

I was able to test them off the car battery directly to see if they work. Thank you

So you have e90 LCI with Xenon ? If yes then this is the most "complicated" headlamp to get best "look" or closer look with F3x series -> I recommend MTEC solutions.

Halogen Headlight Angel Eyes vs Xenon Angel Eyes

I have a 2009 328i with halogen headlights. Does anyone know the difference between the angel eyes on halogen headlights as compared to those on xenon's. I know they're not as bright and have been trying to figure out why. I recently coded my car to have them run as DRL's but they look super dim.

Are they designed differently?

Do they use a bulb that is less bright?

Are they coded to exist in the "dim" setting all the time and could be coded to a daylight mode?

Is the voltage powering them lower than in cars with Xenon's, and if so can this be coded to increase output?

I ask because I noticed that the LED bulbs people are using for their angel eyes are different for halogen headlights but I can't find an explanation as to why this is the case. I'm sure this has been covered somewhere in these forums but I haven't been able to locate it.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Dave

If your car has just regular halogen headlights, the angel eyes are dimmer in general I think. Xenon and HID put out much more light. But there's nothing wrong with halogen, you can switch the bulbs to LED just like you would install another halogen bulb. The ones that come stock in the car are kind of yellow, and can only be seen in the daytime if you're like right on top of them. I went on eBay and found the Cree LED Angel Eye Bulb for my car (If you want the link I can PM it to you for an example of what to buy) and they are much brighter, and have the white/blue look that I think most people go for. Even though they are much more visible than before, they still aren't going to look as good as an HID upgrade, but considering the price difference and the payoff, it's totally suitable.

I've been wondering the same thing about the voltage on them, because the LED bulbs do come with a resistor wired in that can be unplugged from the bulb (I'm guessing it will make the bulbs much brighter without it, but I don't want them to die in a month because they're being pumped with current) - I've just left it alone.

The entire housing of the halogen headlight is very different than the xenon headlight. Your headlight uses 1 10w halogen bulb to illuminate both rings, and this operates at a constant 12v power. To make them brighter its s simple plug and play replacement from the stock bulb to a LED based bulb. One option is our LUX E90 LCI Halogen lights and they will be 2x as bright as stock and a pure white 600k color. There is no need to code anything or change anything else

Thanks for clearing that up. After looking into it a little further, I think I'm going to go the rout of using Lightwerkz or Lightmodz to do a xenon conversion and switch the rings for LED's.
