Help! Trade in :s

Morning everyone, I've been on the hunt for a x5 for a couple of month and I took my car to both these places for a px - one is a well established private garage and the other BMW Glasgow. Now I know my car is falling into high mileage but I got a big shock at their valuations n think their taking the piss a little.

2008 58plate titanium silver e92 320d M-Sport
55,000 miles
Manual gearbox
just been serviced, MOT and new front + rear brake pads,
all tyres have 5/6mm
generally in good condition apart from a couple of stone chips and 1 alloy slightly kerbed.
Bluetooth with cradle
Extended lighting
Aftermarket privacy glass
Mv3 alloys 18"
NOT Idrive/sat nav

Private garage offered - £12,000
BMW - £13,250

I was expecting maybe £15,250ish private sale myself or £14,500 trade in - am I pissing in the wind or am I relatively in the right region? A search on autotrader isn't showing much within 60 miles of my postcode.

I don't think you'll get anything like your figures I'm afraid.

It's an M-Sport, as mentioned twice....

In May I sold my 320i M-Sport, similar spec to yours with 19" wheels. I could only get £13600 and mine only had 13,000 miles. Obviously the d is more in demand but my mileage was hugely less.

If yours is an SE with no leather then it could be about right.

its not a science its what they think they will get for your car or how desperate they are to sell you a car.

i was offered £9800 from one place and then £11,000 from another 2 places
M-Sport, I have to admit that I never thought a 3 year old e92 would be worth as little compared to the new price. Mercedes have now offered £14,000 now against a well priced and spec ML320 but the ml doesn't tick the boxes like the x5 for me I'm thinking I'll test the Market private on AT, at worst I'll lose my £40 advert fee.

I was. However, I got a fair chunk off list when I bought it so it was swings and roundabouts.

Dealers are selling less cars and are broadening the gap between trade in and retail values to boost their coffers. Ultimately if the deal doesn't please you then walk on to the next, used values are pretty depressed at the moment but you may find someone with an X5 they have in stock and want to shift therefore may take a better view of your trade in.
Certainly try private but as many on here has found, it ain't easy at the moment.
