60k service

Hi all,

Just hit 60k and decided to perform major maintenance, let me know if I missed something:

Oil change (this is done every 7k miles)
Transmission fluids flush
Brake fluid
Coolant
Walnut blast
Spark plugs

Thanks

If you were 6AT, you should have also dropped the transmission pan and swapped out that Mechatronic sleeve which is a common failure point at about 75k miles (Cheap part but annoying failure/leaking).

While you were doing the plugs, should should have taken out the VANOS solenoids and cleaned them.

Keep an eye out on VCG and also your OFHG for oil leaks.

Actually i split the service and going this Friday for walnut blast and spark plugs. Will have them check the vanos. Also, during the tranny flush they replaced the pan so i think I'm covered there, right?

Is there a specific way to clean the Vanos solenoids?

I would replace or clean Vanos solenoids, check valve cover and oil cooler -oil filter area gaskets.

I will tell them to clean the vanos solenoids using compressed air. Will tell them to check valve cover and oil cooler (i have the sport package which has the extra oil cooler).

You should get the differential fluid changed as well

Do the diff fluid yourself too. It's really easy with a fluid transfer pump and fairly inexpensive.

I'm just 500mi under 60K and the PS fluid is the last fluid I need to change out.
I've seen the turkey baster method on here, but I'd really rather properly drain and fill.

I would try to get a vacuum pump that hooks up to a compressor if I did it again.

I used a fluid transfer pump and was not satisfied with how much fluid I got out. Only less than 1 qt fit back in before it started flowing out. I'll most likely do it again soon if I can get a better pump that will pull a continuous vacuum

I think just taking them out and using some kind of electronics cleaner should do the trick. Not sure if brake cleaner is too harsh for the electronics?
