Progressive Snapshot

Hey, I see a few threads on here about Snapshot already, but the program's changed since a few years ago. Anyways, apparently 7 mph/second deceleration is a "hard brake" and I've been getting hit with them left and right. Does anyone have any tips on how to get a discount out of this thing? Had it for 2 weeks and already racked up 17 "hard brakes" from light driving of 60 miles. I try to drive like a freaking grandma with slow accelerations/coasting to stoplights, but apparently each second spent in 7mph/sec deceleration is a hard stop, meaning one actual "hard" stop actually counts for 4-5.

I work about 2-3 miles away so I drive back and forth for lunch, and there's tons of stoplights, tourists that can't drive, and lots of merges on the way. There's also tons of camera enforced red-lights around, so I'd rather not risk getting a $150 ticket and just brake. Any pro tips? I already know the trick of unplugging it when I want to drive like a maniac (overheated my waterpump to the point of failure by driving 100 mph-125 mph on the highway for a few hours last week).

I know there is the potential for a discount using it, but in my opinion it is not worth giving up your privacy for it.

Think of it like your driving test. You temporarily drive like a granny to achieve your goal. It's a relatively short span of time to potentially save several hundred bucks. As others have said, if you want to speed just unplug it.

I can not believe people fell for this thing.

Why would anyone allow the insurance company complete access to your driving habits, all that matters is, you had no claims. I drive my BWM almost to the full capabilities of the car, and I can tell you just because I hard brake does not make me a bad driver, the cars braking and acceleration performance save me a few times from idiot drivers. So progressive will fault you because the car can stop on a dine and prevent an accident.

BTW, State Farm is looking to do something similar, but they do not have to send you the thing that plugs into the car, they are going to get it from the car directly via OnStar, they told me BWM SOS is not compatible with their system

Just watch. Eventually this will be like the grocery store "discount cards." In the future, the only way you will be able to get the "regular rate" is to use this thing; people who don't use it will automatically get higher rates. This I forsee.
