My mum mentioned this to my dad the other day as her next car. No idea where she got the idea.

I was just wondering if anyone has one and what their opinions of them are?

And if there is anything better around?

She's short, fat and old with bad knees. So auto important as something easy to get in and out of.

My brother in law has problems getting about, due to a number of muscular and joint restrictions, he tends to go for the mini MPV type of cars, Nissan Note, Renault Modus, he finds them the best all-round with larger doors, and easy access and high-ish driving position

Yaris as mentioned above is a good option, bit higher than a lot of superminis but not a big step up in as some higher vehicles can be. Also Auris if she wants something larger as again its not a drop in when you get into it.

The Yaris is quite a good motor and must be one of the easiest to get in to.
The smallest, I believe is 1 litre could be less and is quite nippy, cheap to run and will hammer down the motorway all day at 70, no prob

Do you really need to go for the diesel in the Yaris. Would avoid the 1.0litre model if she does any main A type road driving but the 1.3 / 1.4 petrol is a good option, quite nippy and easy on fuel.

Also plenty of deals around on prereg and lightly used stuff. My mum got a 1.3 TR 5 door a while back, was 3 months old as a prereg with 70 miles on clock, just over £9000 from memory.

He's right regarding the Yaris. My wife as the 1.3 VVT and gets 45mpg with town driving i.e. shops, school run etc so you would need to be doing a lot of miles to make the diesel worth it.

That's pretty impressive. I need to remember it's for my mum and not me, so all those torques in the denzel will be pretty bored most of the time.

Yeah, we have been really please with the economy, couple that with the high seats and it makes a great town/city car.
