My opinion is that it's not even remotely comparable to an M3.

In reverse. The closest real competition would probably be a Golf R with a chip.

Well then I guess you mean the 335i is slower yea. It's 0-60 is 5.1 sec. The CLA amg is 4.5 sec. They are priced pretty similar also.

Yes, because we all know that 0-60 is the only thing that matters.

Isn't this basically the size of a 1 series? I have a feeling if you get it for your parents, they might have a hard time getting in and out of it.

the CLA is lower, wider, and longer than the current C Class - yes it's true

the CLA is lower and longer than an e90 sedan (but 2.7cm skinnier)

---

not 1 series sizing

---

i would compare it to a 335xi, not an m3

335xi = 47k
cla45 amg = 47.5k

m3 = 60k
c63 amg = 60k

Golf R. What the hell are you guys talking about? You are comparing a luxury sport sedan to a hatchback sports car. Golf R and the CLA45 has nothing in common. We are talking about a 6 speed manual, 256HP vs a 7 speed DCT, 350HP.

It wouldn't match up against a M3 but it will definitely compete with the 335.

I just priced out a c63 with some options and it came to $74k, so hopefully the CLA doesn't get anywhere that price with options. Personally I think it's a really neat car with decent hp and mpg and would consider if doesn't touch c63 pricing...

What?

We are comparing car based on the maker of the AWD? That's like comparing a Lotus Elise to a Toyota Celica just because they have the same engine. Looks like Audi, Volvo, Bugatti uses haldex traction. I guess we should compare a Bugatti to the CLA45 also.

Good grief. Wait for actual road tests, but a car that is limited to only 60% of the power to the rear wheels and defaults to fwd with no slip is very unlikely to be nearly as aggressive or rewarding to drive as a rwd or constant rate awd car.

Sadly, from interviews with the head of AMG, they're not even using the latest version of Haldex that runs a steady amount of power to the rear wheels, like the current Golf R, but an older version that defaults to 100% to the front.

So stop focusing solely magazine stats and learn something about how the car works and you'll understand why I think it's unlikely to be comparable to cars that it may be quicker than or make more power than. It is not a C Class with 4Matic, but an A Class with Haldex, sort of the difference of a 3er with xDrive and a Mini with Haldex.

I will agree that the CLA45 will compete with the 335i, Benz's 4MATIC is much better than the XI rubbish that BMW makes.

This would be great if the CLA/A-Class used 4Matic, but they don't, they use Haldex.
