Are you guys swapping oil to Amsoil or something after having it done (then oil vapors are less likely to coalesce in the intake b/c an oil that handles higher temps)? I have 58k and haven't had it done yet. I want to avoid this being a routine issue every 30-40k or whatever.

Curious about the walnut blasting.....I assume for $400 they are not taking off the head. I just redid my HPFP and noticed I could see down in the intake (where the valve stems are) and noticed a lot of caked on crud/carbon.
With the right "tools" i think I could get down in there and clean them up a bit.....I assume I would need some type of vacuum to suck out that crud? I would imagine you need to set the timing where all the valves are closed? |

Couple of questions guys:
1 - How do you know when it's time to get one done? Wait for a code? Which one? 2 - Are you more likely to need to get it done sooner if you are tuned, or it's the type of driving mainly that defines it? I do pretty much only city driving, short trips. |

Anybody know of a shop performing walnut blasting in Vegas? I don't wanna drive all the way to SoCal for this, and this doesn't look like a 'fun' DIY...

Besides the walnut blasting, what chemical products do you guys recommend to clean that stuff up or at least help with reducing it somehow? Of you recommend any at all...

My dealer quoted me $800 to $1150 depending on how bad it is! And I'm only at 60,000km.
I think I'll be getting some quotes from independent shops.... |
