Is it worth getting BMW extended warranty on a 4-year old E90 ?

Hi all,
I was quoted £520 (£0 excess) or £380 (£100 excess) for the fully comp extended warranty on my E90 which is 4 years old now (23K miles).
Is it worth getting the warranty ?.
Also, they want £78 for breakdown cover. Am I better off getting a 3rd part cover (from £30) ?.
BTW, warranty prices are going up on 11 December 2014. If anyone is thinking renewing, do it before 11th.

Thanks for any suggestions.

What model E90 do you have?

At that price (cheap!) even if its a 318 I'd probably still pay the premium just for piece of mind.

I'd go for the £100 excess option just to keep your monthly payments down.

Also with breakdown I'd check to see if your bank do an account which includes perks such as breakdown. I have Green Flag cover with my Natwest account.

Thanks. I think the £100 excess option makes sense.
My bank wants £15 pm for the breakdown cover (and other perks) so not worth it.

It depends if you use those other perks or not. Mine includes 5 star travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and full-blown breakdown cover including at home, all things I would purchase anyway so it works out fine for me.

Pretty cheap insurance if you can't turn or do not have time to turn a wrench.

I have breakdown cover through Natwest Advantage gold too, it is pretty rubbish if I am honest, they only tow you 15 miles or so, if u are stuck in the middle of nowhere u are stuffed

Get the warranty I'd say as I suspect you might have the N47 engine which has excessive timing chain wear causing premature failure...

Get BMW breakdown, I've had to use it once, they were excellent, there are no restrictions on how far they'll tow (I believe could be used in Europe too), u get a like for like replacement car, no hassle and you'll deal with pleasant people.

Worth checking the monthly option out to.

I am £34 a month on the £100 xs. I remember someone saying they do not recalculate this whereas the annual one will increase each year?

I asked this when I renewed my warranty a couple of weeks ago, I was told they do recalculate it whichever method you use to pay, it is slightly cheaper if you pay annually though.

My 335i is £35 a month with the £100XS. Seemed like a no brainer to be honest. My old E60 M5 was about 3 times that price!

I didn't go for the breakdown, but then the lady told me that they'd recover the car to my local BMW dealer anyway?! Need to read the small print, but if that's the case, there's no point getting the additional cover.

I pay monthly and have never had an increase in premium in the four years that I've had the policy.
I opted for fully comp & 0 excess and this has paid for itself over the years of ownership.
I suppose that it depends on various things-known issues with a particular model, age and mileage etc etc...
One thing though,it seems to be the best warranty available...
