Bishbosh, Bagum,
How did you get this done yourselves? I'm really craving to get this done now, my old Mondeo ST TDCi had them and I can't have a lower spec'd BMW! |

Folding mirrors
Just wondering....I have a 335I 2008 and my car came with the window switch with the button for folding mirrors, but doesn't seem to do anything when I push it. Does this mean that my mirrors don't fold or is it a matter of coding?
I have read everywhere that it is a dead giveaway that you don't have folding mirrors if you don't have the window switch with the button; I have it in mine so I am confused. |

Key needs to be on the car , try it when you have the car switched on.

I looked into FRM and the setting is not active. So I'll try to set it to active and see if that will work. Would bmw put the hardware in the car , but not activate the feature? |

I did it myself. Just thought I'd share with you if anybody needs more info. I am not responsible for any damage that you may do to your car.
First of all, I have to mention that I had no memory seats before, so I had to do some rewiring. This is what I've done, complete steps: 1. replaced my old door mirros with the power folding/autodimming ones. 2. replaced the wiring harness in the passenger with this one 61129186576. You can use the old one, but there are some pins you need to change in the connector at the door. 3. replaced the switch module on the drivers door with one that had the mirror power folding button. The 3 steps up to here were done at a local service shop, but I'm sure you can find guides for this online. 4. replaced the interior mirror with an autodimming one. I also had to add a cable from the mirror to the top console (where the lights are). This was bought as a retrofit cable and I did it myself. There are guides around on how to do that. 5. recoded the car with ncsexpert and ncsdummy. Additionally to what I have already found online, which is (set all to aktiv: NFRM - Folding Outside Mirrors(SPIEGEL_EINKLAPPEN), Automatic Electrochromatic Dimming Mirror (SPIEGEL_ELEKTROCHROM), Outside Mirrors Heating(SPIEGEL_HEIZUNG), Comfort Closing Folding Outside Mirrors (SPIEGEL_KOMFORT_EINKLAPP) CAS - Comfort Opening with Remote Control (KOMFORTOEFFNUNG_FB), Comfort Closing with Remote Control (KOMFORTSCHLIESSUNG_FB) FZD - Automatic Electrochromatic Dimming Mirror (EC_SPIEGEL) I also added the LIN BUS option in NFRM (I don't remember exactly how it's called now). I also added the option in NFRM for the passenger mirror to go down when putting the car in reverse. You should be familiar with coding the car for the step above. 6. after this stage the driver mirror started working completely (folding, heating, adjusting, dimming) but the passenger mirror didn't work at all. The interior mirror was working as well. This is the part that I started thinking about doing some rewiring. There were posts around saying that you need to get a wire from the Footwell Module (pin 22) to the passenger side mirror pin 6 and from the pin8 to the a permanent plus. I found it difficult to pass a wire from the left side to the right side behind the console (I have done this for a LHD) so I thought about changing the existing wires. You should study the wiring diagrams freely available online. 7. so, the old wiring had 3 wires going from the driver switch, through the driver door coupling all the way to the passenger door coupling and mirror. So by going through the footwell on the passenger side I changed these pins: pin7 -> pin8, pin23 -> pin6. The wire that is now to pin8 should be permanent +. This is the only part that I am not fond of how it turned out as I didn't find an easy way to remove the fuse box on the same side of the car, so I cut the wire a few centimeters above the plug, soldered some additional wire and plugged it in to fuse 66 from the front, which on my car was mirrors, permanent plus. 8. the old pin23 (now pin6 ) was going all the way to the driver side to the connector on the door (pin23 also if I remember correctly but I may be wrong, please check the wiring diagrams and the color of the cable). So by going again through the footwell on the driver side, I removed the pin23 from the housing, and plugged the wire in pin22 of the footwell module. I used a piece of wire from the old passenger door harness for this as I had to switch from a pin to a hole when plugging into the footwell module. The pin22 on the footwell module is from the bottom plug towards the front of the car. Put it all back together and it worked immediately, including the passenger door mirror tilting down in reverse. The rewiring part took around 4 hours. It's not easy work removing covers, modules, plugs and wires in the footwells. Please find online the pdf about the various bmw connectors and plugs so you don't risk breaking them when pulling them appart. That's it. Enjoy. |
