Intelligent Battery sensor wire unplugged

So I bought my car a few months ago from a dealership. The other day I decided to scan the car for fault codes and it came up with 2E8D Intelligent Battery Sensor error. I looked at the battery and noticed that the blue plug that connect the IBS was unplugged. The car never gave me any check engine lights or anything and apparently from what I read this error won't give any lights. The battery looks like an OEM BMW battery. I'm just wondering why anyone would want to unplug this cable. Could it be so they wouldn't have to get a new battery registered?

I have heard the IBS can keep the car from starting if you have a low
battery. So if you have a low battery the trick is to disconnect it to start
the car. Also I think the car uses default values for battery charging when its
not hooked up.

No it's not that cable. Like I said its the blue connector that goes to the IBS on the negative terminal not the positive terminal like in that post you linked

Bringing this from the dead, what happens if we leave the IBS sensor unplugged? Will it have problem charging the battery or will it kill the battery?

SO I had a problem with my car... I would get in and try to start the car and NOTHING. The radio would come on and my ignition/accessory lights would not come on. The only thing showing was the little square screen when it shows you the Milage on your car. Couldn't find the problem so I bought a new battery. Same thing. Come out the next morning car is completely dead! So I put in my old battery and disconnect the blue little IBS cable next to the negative terminal and BOOM car fires right up! I'm sure someone is going to come across this again. Time for a new IBS

Are you sure its the IBS cable and not the shipping cable?
If the IBS plug is out the car runs on default battery values,
perhaps the previous owner unplugged it to start the car with
a low battery or the actual IBS unit is bad.
Unplugging the ibs is sometimes recamended to start the car with a low battery or other starting problems.
