Simple Meth Question?
What are the advantages of running a meth kit on a 335 instead having a convenient gas station with E85 and is there a difference between the two?
pros vs cons? |

E85 = putting the alcohol in your gas tank instead of spraying it through the charge pipe. Theoretically E85 is a superior solution.
E85 Cons: - Since the N54 does not yet support 100% E85, it's quite hard to maintain the correct fuel/alcohol ratio in your gas tank. - E85 concentration can differ from pump to pump - E85 is not available in all locations Methanol pros: - Just run your regular pump gas and don't worry about anything, and turn it into race gas at the push of a button, only when you need it. - It cools incoming air significantly Methanol cons: - You may run into issues mixing it with the incoming air for equal distribution among cylinders. - It may not be as reliable as the car's primary fueling system

Depends on how deep and detailed you want to get.
Generally speaking, E85 is just a fuel, so it does not cool the air intake charge like methanol does. The con's are a lot easier to list but they are not necessarily true for all setups but here are some to keep into consideration. There are a lot of "depends on the setup". Pro's of E85: Cost (depending on location) Increase boost and timing = Power Con's of E85: Cost? (depending on location) Availability Gas mileage decrease Does not cool intake charge Not as much potential power then methanol (depends on setup) E85 concentration and consistency Tuning hurdles (currently being overcome lately) Potential risk of fuel component failure, e85 is corrosive, but the on this platform it seems to be holding up. Methanol Pro's Cools intake charge to near ambient temperatures Increases octane to 100+ Able to increase timing and boost = power Methanol Con's Reliability of system components and hardware Cost Availability Fire risks and health risks (from leaks) Need to fill methanol tank on regular basis I can really go on and on about more pros and cons of both, but they are not necessarily true for every setup. E85 in conjunction with Procede and their flex fuel sensor seems to be working great for most, it allows you to run any mixture of E85 and the tune will adjust to the optimum settings. Previous to that people had to estimate how much e85 they were running and find a happy medium tune, so the flex fuel sensor and procede take out the guess work. |

So if I want to try out the E85, run my tank all the way down than run 40% E85 with 60% 91 and run map 3 on the jb4?
Can i run E85 w/ 110 leaded fuel? Same ratio? Thanks again! |

do not run leaded race fuel in an N54. you will kill your o2 sensors. i used to run 30% 93/e85/102 and it was perfect. never had fueling issues that e85 causes sometimes and didn't have any timing pulls because i had plenty of octane. |

I run JB4 and usually run map 2 all the time. I have 55 gallons of 110 sonoco in my garage, but it almost gone. I don't have cats, but I did start getting a limp mode again between 2-3 sometimes. I was thinking it was another coil going out, hopefully not a O2. I recently wrecked it bad and won't have it for another few weeks. I am looking forward to start running some E85 and see how it works. Wheels broke in the wreck, just ordered some new Linea Corse LC818's matt black

Can you run say a 50/50 -- 93/e85 mix stock? I ask due to the gas crisis on long island and the fact that most stations at least still have e85.

Well I ended up ordering a BMS meth kit over the weekend. I try to get some pics up once the car gets out of the shop. Thanks for the feedback.

I still can't decide on this. When factoring costs, power, reliability, potential (albiet small) for damage to engine, required monitoring, and upkeep with a goal of 450whp on a daily driver, I am tore between meth, e85 and RBs running just 93 octane.
