Charging battery?

Quick question guys. I need to charge my battery... Do I need to unhook the battery from the car before connecting the battery charger or can I charge the battery while it's hooked to the car's cabling?

Thanks...

My manual states:
"Charging the battery
Only charge the battery in the vehicle via the
terminals in the engine compartment with the
engine off. Connections, refer to Jump-starting
on page 239."
